18th Round of the Heybeliada Talks
GPoT Center organised the 18th round of the Heybeliada Talks: Series of Second Track Diplomacy Meetings on Cyprus, on 10 August 2015 in Nicosia’s Buffer Zone, Cyprus.
The event took place with the participation of approximately 25 civil society activists, opinion makers, academics, journalists, and experts from Turkey, Greece, and both sides of Cyprus.
With the support of the British Embassy in Ankara, the event aimed to contribute to the speeded up search for a comprehensive solution of the Cyprus problem. During the meeting, the participants discussed the grasping synergy in the official negotiations, the importance of the growing interaction between the two sides, and the property issue from various aspects. The roundtable meeting was conducted under Chatham House rule in order to provide the participants with a frank atmosphere of constrictive debate.
Since 2008, the Heybeliada Talks have served as a multi-party dialogue platform for sincere exchange of ideas between main stakeholders on issues pertaining to the solution of the Cyprus question. The meetings originally started on the island of Heybeliada in the Sea of Marmara, and later relocated to Nicosia’s Buffer Zone.
