Formal Book Launch of the Turkish Embassy Residence Book in Washington, D.C.

GPoT Center, together with the Turkish Embassy in Washington, D.C., organized the formal book launch event of “The Turkish Ambassador’s Residence and the Cultural History of Washington, D.C.” on June 10 in Washington, D.C., U.S.A.

In celebration of the new publication, the three authors of the book, Skip Moskey, a historical researcher; Caroline Mesrobian Hickman, an art and architectural historian; and John Edward Hasse, the head of the Jazz section of the Smithsonian Institute, participated in a panel discussion moderated by Sylvia Tiryaki, Deputy Director of GPoT Center. The meeting’s opening remarks were given by Namık Tan, the Turkish Ambassador to Washington, while Bahar Akıngüç Günver, the Chair of the Board of Trustees of Istanbul Kültür University, and Lisa McCowan Foley, the granddaughter of Edward Hamlin Everett, the first owner of the residence, also delivered speeches.

“The Turkish Ambassador’s Residence and the Cultural History of Washington, D.C.”, which is the first comprehensive book about the history of the Embassy Residence, formerly known as Everett House, documents the unknown dimensions of the relationship between the two countries.
