Future of Syria Dialogue Workshop
The Future of Syria Dialogue Workshop was organized as the second step in the framework of the EuroMeSCo ENI Project, funded by the European Union (EU) and the European Institute of the Mediterranean, (IEMed).
The event took place in Istanbul on the 10th of October, 2016 under the tutelage of Global Political Trends Center. It consisted of four sessions representing the four themes of the Joint Policy Study by authors of the working package. The four sessions were ‘National Reconciliation and Protection of Minorities’ with Dr. Salam Kawakibi of the Arab Reform Initiative as the author.
This was followed by the second session on ‘Military, Security and Counter-Terrorism’. This was supposed to be spearheaded by Dr. Florence Guab of the European Institute of Security Studies, the author for the chapter. However upon notice of her inability to be part of the workshop, Global Political Trend Center’s Dr. Sylvia Tiryaki led the discussion for her session.
Afterwards came the third session on ‘Peace-keeping, Reconstruction and Development’ by Dr. Eckart Woertz of the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs. Dr. Sylvia Tiyaki led the final session on ‘State-building, Political, Structural and Legal Issues’. The workshop was attended by 26 participants. Participants were experts from academia, civil society organizations and think tanks with experience in terms of the dealing with the Middle East.
