EU-Turkey Relations and the Denmark Presidency

GPoT Center, in cooperation with the European Movement Denmark, organized a conference entitled “EU-Turkey Relations and the Denmark Presidency” on December 6th, 2011 in Copenhagen with the participation of Turkey's Minister of European Affairs and Chief Negotiator, Egemen Bağış.

During the conference, the history of Turkey's EU accession process, starting with its application for membership up until the present was evaluated, and the future of the process during the Danish EU presidency was discussed. The participants also considered bilateral relations between Denmark and Turkey in the areas of business and trade.

Mr. Bağış also touched upon some obstacles to Turkey’s accession, such as the Cyprus problem and the reform process for increasing democracy, human rights, and freedoms.
