GPoT and MITVIM’s 7th Policy Dialogue; Towards Israel-Turkey Agreement in Istanbul

Global Political Trends Center (GPoT) and MITVIM- The Israeli Institute for Regional Foreign Policies organized their 7th Policy Dialogue; Towards Israel-Turkey Agreement on 23 June 2016 in Istanbul in cooperation with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Turkey.

The Dialogue meeting highlighted key issues in the various sessions. Notable among them are the ‘Domestic Developments in Israel and Turkey and Their Foreign Policy Implications. Significant questions under this session included how the coalition changes in Israel and government changes in Turkey will affect the reconciliation process. Also the expectations of both Israel and Turkey from the Agreement were discussed alongside issues remaining to be approached as long as the relationship between the two countries are concerned.

An equally significant session, ‘The Aftermath of Israel-Turkey Reconciliation Process’ also touched on the possible implications of an Israel-Turkey deal with regards to regional dynamics. How the Israel-Turkey agreement can assist the Middle-East peace process, Fatah-Hamas reconciliation and the future of Gaza was also thoroughly discussed.

The high level policy dialogue meeting was well attended. Dignitaries included Mesut Ozcan, Assoc. Prof. and Director of Diplomacy Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Turkey, Ksenia Svetlova, Member of the Israeli Knesset, Zionist Union, Dr. Nimrod Goren, Head of the Mitvim Institute, Gabriel Micthell and Khader Saweed, also of MITVIM, and Daniela Kuzu of the Friedrich Erbert Stifung Foundation in Turkey. Other participants included GPoT Center’s Prof. Mensur Akgun, Dr. Sylvia Tiryaki and Muhammed Ammash, Oğuz Çelikkol, the former Turkish Ambassador to Israel and a lecturer at Istanbul Kultur University was also present alongside Selin Nasi from Hürriyet Daily News.

The Meeting also attracted a large cross section of media representatives and journalists alongside experts of the two countries.

GPoT ve MITVIM Enstitüsü'nün 7. Siyasal Diyaloğu: İsrail ve Türkiye Anlaşmasına Doğru

Küresel Siyasal Eğilimler Merkezi (GPoT) ve İsrail Bölgesel Dış Politika Enstitüsü(MITVIM), İsrail-Türkiye Siyaset Diyaloğu yuvarlak masa toplantılarının yedincisini Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Türkiye işbirliği ile 23 Haziran’da İstanbul’da düzenledi.

Diyalog toplantısında gerçekleştirilen farklı oturumlarda konuyla ilgili çeşitli konulara değinildi. "İsrail ve Türkiye'deki Yerel Gelişmeler ve Bunların Dış Politikaya Etkileri" öne çıkan başlıklardan bir tanesi. Bu oturumda, İsrail'deki koalisyon değişikliklerinin ve Türkiye'deki hükümet değişikliklerinin uzlaşma sürecini nasıl etkileyeceği tartışıldı. Ayrıca Türkiye ve İsrail'in anlaşmaya dair beklentileri ve iki ülke arasındaki ilişki değinilen diğer başlıklar arasında.

Aynı derecede önemli bir diğer oturum olan "İsrail-Türkiye Uzlaşma Süreci Sonrası", iki ülke arasında sağlanacak bir anlaşmanın bölgesel dinamikler üzerindeki olası etkilerine değindi. İsrail ve Türkiye arasında sağlanacak bir anlaşmanın Ortadoğu'daki barış sürecine, Fatah ve Hamas uzlaşma sürecine ve Gazze'nin geleceğine nasıl katkılar sağlayabileceği tartışıldı.

Politika diyaloğuna katılım ve ilgi oldukça fazlaydı. Üst düzey katılımcılar arasında Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Dışişleri Bakanlığı Diplomasi Akademisi'nden Doç. Dr. Mesut Özcan, İsrail Knesset Üyesi, Siyonist Birlik Partisi'nden Ksenia Svetlova, MITVIM Enstitüsü Direktörü Dr. Nimrod Goren, MITVIM Enstitüsü'nden ayrıca Gabriel Micthell ve Khader Saweed, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Türkiye'den Daniela Kuzu bulunuyor. GPoT Merkezi'nden Prof. Mensur Akgün, Dr. Sylvia Tiryaki, Muhammed Ammash, İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi Öğretim Üyesi Eski İsrail Büyükelçisi Oğuz Çelikkol ve Hürriyet Daily News'ten Selin Nasi toplantıya katılan diğer isimlerden.

İki ülke üzerine uzamanlaşmış isimlerin yanısıra toplantı çeşitli medya kuruluşların ve gazetecilerin de yoğun ilgisini çekti.
