Özdem Sanberk to Represent Turkey at the United Nations Panel of Inquiry into the Gaza Flotilla Incident

Özdem Sanberk, GPoT High Advisory Board member, one of the most experienced Turkish diplomats and former Ambassador to the UK, will serve as the Turkish representative on the UN Secretary-General’s inquiry into the Gaza flotilla incident.

The other members of the panel are the former New Zealand prime minister Geoffrey Palmer, serving as chair; the ex-president of Colombia Alvaro Uribe, serving as vice-chair; and Joseph Ciechanover, serving as the Israeli representative.

According to the UN, the panel is to examine and identify the facts, circumstances, and the context of the incident involving the flotilla, which departed Turkey-bound for the Gaza Strip. The panel will receive and review the reports of national investigations into the incident and request clarifications and information as necessary from national authorities.

Türkiye'nin en deneyimli diplomatlarından ve emekli İngiltere Büyükelçisi, aynı zamanda GPoT YDK üyesi olan Özdem Sanberk, BM Genel Sekreteri'nin Gazze gemi olayını inceleyecek olan soruşturma panelinde Türkiye temsilcisi olarak görev alacak.

Panelin diğer üyeleri panele başkanlık edecek olan Yeni Zelanda eski Başbakan'ı Geoffrey Palmer, başkan yardımcılığı yapacak olan Kolombiya eski Cumhurbaşkanı Alvaro Uribe ve İsrail'i temsilen Joseph Ciechanover olacaklar.

BM'ye göre panelin amacı Türkiye'den Gazze'ye doğru hareket eden gemileri çevreleyen olayların durumu, şartları ve olayla ilgili verileri gözden geçirip belirlemek olacak. Buna bağlı olarak panel, olayla ilgili ülkelerde yürütülen araştırmaları ele alarak inceleyecek ve ilgili otoriterelerden konuyla ilgili ek bilgi ve açıklamaları talep edecek.
