Pavol Demeš Is Elected to the Board of Trustees of EED
Pavol Demeš, member of GPoT Center's High Advisory Board, was elected to the Board of Trustees of the European Endowment for Democracy (EED) as a representative of civil society on November 13, 2012.
According to the press release of the European Commission, the aim of the EED is "to help political parties, non-registered NGOs, trade unions and other social partners in a coherent, concerted effort to promote deep and sustainable democracy as well as respect for human rights and the rule of law." The establishment of EED was initiated by a proposal of Radoslaw Sikorski, Minisiter of Foreign Affairs of Poland. It is expected that the Endowment will allow the EU to respond timely and accurately to events emerging in countries situated in its immediate neighborhood. The EED, an autonomous foundation based in Belgium, will thus complement the activities conducted within the framework of other of EU's cooperation instruments.
