Talks on Armenia
GPoT, in partnership with the Eurasia Partnership Foundation (EPF) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), organized a seminar for Turkish journalists entitled “Talks on Armenia”.
The meeting, which took place at Istanbul Kultur University on September 20th, 2010, started with the welcoming remarks of Dr. Sylvia Tiryaki. In the first part of the panel, Turkish and Armenian journalists talked about the 'nuts-and-bolts' of Armenian politics at a round table.
The second part of the panel involved the presentations of Dr. Hovhannes Hovhannisyan and Dr. Heghine Manaysan. Dr. Hovhannisyan spoke about Armenian domestic politics including parties, opposition and mechanisms. Dr. Hovhannisyan explained the political structure of Armenia, including its presidential governance, parliamentary parties, non-parliamentary parties and elections, as well as briefing the participants on the role of the Diaspora and foreign policy of Armenia. The presentation ended with the analysis of Armenia’s relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey. Dr. Heghine Manasyan’s presentation entitled “Armenia: Challenges of Economic Transformation and Emerging Market” included challenges of transition, current situation datas and global prospects for the future.
