The 10th Round of the Heybeliada Talks

The impact of the latest Greek Cypriot (May 22, 2011) and Turkish parliamentary elections (June 12, 2011) on the official Cyprus talks was discussed by Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot civil society activists, academics and opinion leaders together with participants from Turkey during the 10th round of the Heybeliada Talks on June 13, 2011.

The meeting took place in the Cyprus Media Community Center in the Buffer Zone. The guest speaker of the 10th round was Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Gençkaya of Marmara University's Political Science Department, who addressed the participants with a profound analysis of the political party spectrum in Turkey.

The Heybeliada Talks are a series of second-track diplomacy meetings aimed at bringing together Turkish Cypriot, Greek Cypriot, as well as Greek and Turkish participants to discuss issues pertaining to the solution of the Cyprus problem alongside the official Cyprus Talks, which are being conducted under the auspices of the UN.

GPoT Center would like to express its thanks to the Open Society Foundation - Turkey and Friedrich Naumann Foundation - Turkey for sponsoring this round of the talks and for their long-term support of the Heybeliada process.
