Turkey-Armenia Journalism Award Ceremony 2012

GPoT Center in collaboration with Armenia-based Eurasia Partnership Foundation (EPF) and Yerevan Press Club (YPC) held the second annual "Turkey-Armenia Journalism Award" ceremony at the British Consulate General on June 14th, 2012 in Istanbul.

The names of the award recipients were announced at the award ceremony held on June 4th, 2012 in Yerevan. The Armenian award recipient Lilit Gasparyan, the Istanbul correspondent for Armenia’s Yerkir Media TV company, was awarded for the documentary she made on Armenian schools in Istanbul. The Turkish award recipient, Hilal Kaplan, a columnist in Istanbul-based Yeni Şafak newspaper, was awarded for her two articles entitled "Şanlı Tarihimiz ve Hakikat / Our Glorious Past and the Truth" and "Ermenistan: Anadolu Diasporası / Armenia: Diaspora of Anatolia."

The event, which is implemented under the USAID-sponsored "Support to Armenia–Turkey Rapprochement (SATR)" project took place with the participation of representatives from the partner organizations, journalists from Turkish and Armenian media outlets, academics, and civil society members.

Following the welcoming remarks by the British Consul General in Istanbul, Jessica Hand, and the Chair of the Board of Trustees of Istanbul Kültür University, Bahar Akıngüç Günver, on behalf of Turkish and Armenian jury members the deputy director of GPoT Center, Sylvia Tiryaki and the associate country director of EPF Armenia, Vazgen Karapetyan presented the SATR project's implementations and expressed their remarks on Turkey-Armenia relations. The event ended with the award presentation to the award recipients followed by a cocktail.
