Challenges for Turkey and Israel in the Changing Middle East and Influence of the Media in Turkish-Israeli Relations

Global Political Trends Center (GPoT Center) together with Fredrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) and the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute organized a two-day international workshop on the challenges for Turkey and Israel in the changing Middle East and influence of the media in Turkish-Israeli relations which went from the 15th to the 16th of October, 2012.

The first day of the workshop was a roundtable meeting held in Istanbul. The meeting was divided into two timely and plenary sessions, covering topics such as the paradigm shift in the Middle East and the opportunities and challenges for Turkey and Israel; stories of Turkey and Israel in the context of media freedom, bias and objectivity; and the role of the media in shaping perceptions on the two countries. Present at the meeting were high-level journalists and media representatives from both Turkey and Israel, as well as representatives from FES Turkey, the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute, and GPoT Center.

During the second day, the participants travelled to Ankara and met with Directors and high-profile members of the Center for Strategic Communication (STRATIM), the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV), the International Strategic Research Organization (USAK), as well as the Republican People’s Party (CHP) at the National Parliament.
