Pre-election Exchange of Armenian Journalists

GPoT Center hosted 5 Armenian media experts in Istanbul between 6-12 June, 2011 within the scope of the Pre-election Exchange of Journalists component of the “Support to Armenia-Turkey Rapprochement” Project.

In cooperation with Yerevan Press Club (YPC) and Eurasia Partnership Foundation (EPF), GPoT Center organized several meetings for the journalists to cover the pre-election period in Turkey. On their first day, Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Gençkaya of Marmara University’s Political Science Department, explained to the Armenian journalists at a roundtable held at Istanbul Kültür University, the history of elections in Turkey and the political situation before the upcoming 2011 elections. On the following days, the Armenian journalists met with Mr. Yavuz Baydar, ombudsman of Sabah newspaper; Ms. Duygu Leloğlu of A Haber, and Mr. Aris Nalcı of IMC TV in order to hear different voices regarding the election system and political parties in Turkey . On the Election Day, journalists had the chance to interview citizens at the polling stations.
