Policy Dilalogue Meetings in Canada
Global Political Trends Center’s (GPoT) Director Prof. Mensur Akgün and Deputy Director Sylvia Tiryaki, together with Assoc. Prof. Mesut Özcan, Chairman of the Strategic Research Center (SAM) of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, and Mr. Ufuk Ulutaş, Director of the Foreign Policy Studies of the Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research (SETA) held a series of meetings in Canada between 13-19 November 2014.
The meetings focused on two different issues, i.e. establishing contact with the Armenian Diaspora, and ISIL threat in the Middle East.
The representatives of GPoT Center, SAM and SETA delivered speeches on the following topics at the distinguished universities in Canada:
-“ISIS, Syria, and Iraq: How did we get here? What’s Coming Next?”, Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto, 17th of November, 2014,
-“The ISIL Threat: A Turkish Perspective”, Carleton University, 14th of November, 2014.
During the visit, the group of Turkish academicians and think-tankers also held several meetings with the representatives of the Armenian diaspora based in Canada as well as with diplomats affiliated with the Turkish Embassy in Ottawa. The group discussed on the prospects for normalisation prospects of Turkey-Armenia relations and the importance of the Armenian Diaspora’s involvement in the process.
