Following the workshop entitled “The Multilateral Track of Euro-Mediterranean Relations: The Role of the Union for the Mediterranean", which was organized by the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean, European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) and Euro-Mediterranean Study Commission (EuroMeSCo) in Barcelona on October 3, 2012, the directors of GPoT Center, Prof. Dr. Akgün and Dr. Tiryaki, participated in the EuroMeSCo Annual Conference.
GPoT Center hosted approximately 30 students from the Nordfyn Gymnasium based in the Danish city of Sonderso. The group, together with their teachers, visited GPoT Center on September 20th, 2012 in order to learn about selected issues in Turkish foreign policy and the institute's activities in these areas.
After welcoming remarks delivered by Can Yirik, Sofia Hafdell made a presentation in which she addressed the role of Turkey in NATO and the region. Lenka Peťková briefed the group about the Cyprus problem and its linkage to EU-Turkey relations.
GPoT Center’s Sofia Hafdell attended the 2012 Ørecomm Festival “Reclaiming the Public Sphere: Communication, Power and Social Change”, organized by the Ørecomm Centre for Communication and Glocal Change.
The Ørecomm research centre, originated by Malmö University, Sweden and Roskilde University, Denmark, invited researchers, students, and practitioners to its four-day seminar that started in Roskilde (1 day), moved on to Malmö (2 days) and closed in Copenhagen (1 day).
Lenka Peťková, together with 46 other young professionals and students from twelve different countries, participated in the 11th edition of the Visegrad Summer School hosted by the Villa Decius Association in Cracow between July 1st and 14th, 2012.
GPoT Center’s Director, Dr. Mensur Akgün, and Deputy Director Dr. Sylvia Tiryaki attended the conference “Addressing violent extremism: Creating space for civil society”, a side event on the occasion of the UN General Assembly review of the Global Counterterrorism Strategy, which was held at the Church Center for the United Nations in New York on June 26th, 2012.
On June 2012, GPoT Center was welcomed as the 56th associate member, and first ever Turkish organization, to join the Policy Association for an Open Society (PASOS).
GPoT Center’s Narod Maraşlıyan and Sofia Hafdell attended a one-day conference entitled "Examining Peacemaking", which was held at Koc University’s Office of International Programs on June 19th, 2012. At the conference, the speakers included Dr. Donna Hicks, Associate at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Harvard University; and Ahmet Sözen, Professor and Chairman of the Department of International Relations, Eastern Mediterranean University.
From June 15th to the 17th, 2012, GPoT Director Dr. Mensur Akgün and Deputy Director Dr. Sylvia Tiryaki attended a roundtable discussion entitled “Creative Initiatives to Move Forward,” conducted as part of the Cyprus Academic Dialogue (CAD), in the city of Limassol.
GPoT Center together with the Eurasia Partnership Foundation and Yerevan Press Club held the second annual "Turkey-Armenia Journalism Award" ceremony on the premises of the British Consulate General in Istanbul on June 14, 2012. The winners of the 2012 award were Ms. Hilâl Kaplan of Yeni Şafak (Turkey) and Ms. Lilit Gasparyan of Yerkir Media (Armenia). The video features speeches delivered by the British Consul General in Istanbul - Mrs. Jessica Hand; Chair of the Board of Trustees of Istanbul Kültür University - Mrs.
GPoT Center's Narod Maraşlıyan participated in the US Department of State funded "Young Turkey/Young America - A New Relationship for a New Age" program's first leg which was held in Turkey between June 3rd and 14th, 2012.
