Istanbul Kültür University celebrated the 101st anniversary of the declaration of the Turkish Republic on Tuesday, October 29, with a ceremony held at the front garden of the Ataköy building on the Bakırköy Campus. Attended by the Board of Trustees, the Rectorate, deans, and academic and administrative staff, the event began with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Atatürk bust.

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Underwater Club (IKUSAT) carried out training and development dives at the Dive Academy Diving Center in Bodrum between October 26-29, 2024, with the participation of 4 graduates and 4 students under the guidance of club advisor Cemal Turan.

The members, who received theoretical and sea training, descended to a depth of 18 meters in their last dive and were entitled to receive their 1-star diver badges. Our 6 members with 6 badges sailed with the boat of Instructor Tolga Dokumacı from Dive Academy and made development dives at 8 different points, including the area where the C-47 Dakota aircraft wreck is located.

Our members, who dived to raise awareness about femicide and celebrate Republic Day, unfurled the Turkish flag, club flag, and banner underwater. This conscious act by our members was widely covered in the press with the title, “A banner was unfurled underwater in Bodrum to raise awareness about violence against women.”

The short documentary “Things I Learned at 30” directed by Res. Assist. Sezer Ağgez, our faculty member from the Department of Communication and Design, has been selected as a finalist at the 19th Boston Turkish Film Festival. This year, 16 documentary films will compete for the first prize at the festival, which will take place in Boston, Massachusetts, between November 23 and December 6, 2024.

As part of the Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Design Factory's 2024-2025 academic year promotion and information activities, various presentations were organized in collaboration with different departments of our university. These comprehensive promotional activities, in which new informative presentations are also planned, attracted great interest from our students.

The Head of the Department of Special Education, Prof. Dr. Arzu Özen, along with Assist. Prof. Fidan Güneş Güngör Kılıç, Assist. Prof. Sima Mart, and Res. Assist. Betül Bektaş, delivered their presentations at the 34th National Special Education Congress hosted by Ankara University from October 23 to 26, 2024.

Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Murat Ermiş, our senior students Hacı Mahmut Demirkutlu, Şevval Aygün, Selay Berker, Ayşe Ulaşlı, and Gizem Özcan from the Department of Industrial Engineering have been accepted into the 2024-2025 LIFT UP Industry-Oriented Undergraduate Graduation Projects Program run by TUSAŞ.

In scope of their graduation projects, our students will focus on solving the “Flow-Shop Job Assignment Problem in Machine Tools.”

A meeting on graduation and career was held with the participation of alumni of the Vocational School of Justice who work as clerks in courts, notary offices, and law firms. The event aimed to allow these alumni to share their professional experiences with current students of the Vocational School of Justice, and the students of the recently launched Program of Court and Office Services. Faculty members of Vocational School of Justice, Faculty of Law, and Program of Court and Office Services attended the event held on Thursday, October 24.

In scope of the event, the Director of the Vocational School of Justice, Prof. Dr. Durmuş Tezcan, delivered a conference titled “Law and Human Rights in the Republic System” in honour of the 101st Anniversary of our Republic.

In scope of the course “Architectural Design I” conducted by Assoc. Prof. Selin Yıldız and Research Assistant Berkay Oskay, first-year students of Istanbul Kültür University, Department of Architecture, prepared projects under the title of “Urban Readings on Istanbul” which went on display on Thursday, October 24. 2024. Visitors interested in seeing these 3D works of students, which reflect Istanbul from various perspectives, can visit the gallery on the second floor of the Ataköy building.

The Leadership and Management Club organized the “LİDERYönetici 2024” event on October 24-25 at the Akıngüç Auditorium and Arts Center at our Bakırköy Campus, Ataköy building. The event welcomed esteemed speakers, including Özge Güler, General Manager of GUP Generation, Nuh Coşkun Yağmur, Marketing and Business Development Manager at Albaraka Tech, Ali Ertuğrul Yemiş, Commercial Marketing and Sales Director at Kerevitaş, Seher Poyrazoğlu Yavuz, Supply Chain and Business Development Manager for Europe and Africa & Executive Board Member at Shell, Duygu Kılıç Ataseven, Director at Gallagher Re, and Altuğ Eker, Chief Growth Officer at Bulutistan. Our guests shared valuable insights on the qualities required to be a great leader and manager, the challenges they faced along their journeys, and the experiences they gained on the path to success.

The Logistics Club organized the "Logistics Talks-1" event on Wednesday, October 23, in classroom 1A-01, in the İncirli building of the Bakırköy campus. At the event, where Mars Logistics Customer Experience Officer Özge Demirci was a speaker, attendees received detailed insights into innovations in logistics processes, customer experience processes, and career planning.

The Digital Kültür Club will organize a talk titled “Don't Be Afraid of Digitalization” in order to inform students on how to keep up with the digitalizing world and integrate professions into digital life. The event, where Ahmet M. Çalmuk, Vice President of the International Digital Entrepreneurship Association and President of Metvibes Agency, will be the speaker, will be held on Monday, November 4 at 13:00 in the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus.

The Department of Foreign Language Education will organize a conference titled "Teacher Applications to International Projects" to inform the students of the Faculty of Education about project preparation, application, and implementation processes. The event, where İlker Bayrak and Gülden Bayrak from Büyükçekmece District National Education Directorate and Özgü Öztürk from Büyükçekmece Atatürk Anatolian High School will be speakers, will be held on Tuesday, November 5th, at 10:00 in the Z-16 Conference Hall of the Küçükçekmece campus.

The Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design will organize a conference titled "The Evolution of Space Organization" to provide students with theoretical knowledge on the historical development of space organization. The event, where Prof. Dr. Şengül Öymen Gür from Istanbul Beykent University will be the speaker, will be held on Tuesday, November 5, at 13.00 at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall in the Bakırköy Campus, Ataköy building.

The Department of Communication and Design will organize a talk titled "Game Talks #2: Crafting Unique Gameplay" so that students can combine different game mechanics to create innovative game experiences. The event, in which Game Designer Serra Güzeller will be the speaker, will be held on Tuesday, November 5, at 13.00, in classroom 1C 07/09 of the Bakırköy Campus, Ataköy building.

The IKU Department of Business Administration will organize the 12th SMEs and Productivity Congress, themed “SMEs‘ Growth and Branding Journey: From Caterpillar to Butterfly.” The congress, where our Head of the Department of Business Administration Assoc. Prof. Murat Taha Bilişik, our Rector Prof. Dr. Fadime Üney Yüksektepe and our Chairperson of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver will make opening speeches and experts in their fields will participate, will be held in a hybrid format on Wednesday, November 6, at 09.30 at the Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center.

The Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design will organize a trip to the “UNICERA Istanbul & International Ceramic Bathroom Kitchen Fair” at the Istanbul Expo Center on Friday, November 8, for students to have an idea about the presentation, functioning, use and application details of the products described in their course.

In collaboration with the Vocational School and the Civil Aviation Club, Istanbul Kültür University will host “Aviation Talks-3: Civil Aviation in Türkiye” to support students in career planning and strengthen industry-academia relations. PEGASUS Airlines CEO Güliz Öztürk will deliver a speech at the event, which will be held on Friday, November 8, at 14.00 in the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall at the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy  Campus.
