After the earthquake on February 6, 2023, which significantly affected the southeast region of our country, causing many casualties, injuries, and building collapses, the “Earthquake-Resistant Parks Student Idea Project” was discussed as a social responsibility initiative in cooperation with the Department of Architecture, the Architecture Club, and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality during the 2023-2024 academic year.

The presentation of the project took place on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the IBB Kasımpaşa Additional Service Building, with the participation of our students, academics, and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality employees. Celal Caner Sönmez, one of our students from the Department of Architecture, provided an overview of their project. Following the presentation, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality awarded certificates of appreciation to the students and consulting academics.

The Department of International Trade and Finance, the Technology Transfer Office (TTO), and the Department of Entrepreneurship hosted officials from Informatics Valley, Startgate, and Digiage at our university on December 18, 2024.

During the "Start Your Entrepreneurship Story" event, officials provided valuable information about the processes of the “TÜBİTAK-1812 Investment-Based Entrepreneurship Support Program” for our entrepreneur candidate students who are interested in the entrepreneurship ecosystem. Our students also had the opportunity to engage directly with the experts and ask their questions.

The Head of our Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema, Assoc. Prof. Perihan Taş Öz, joined as a guest speaker for the panel discussion “Those Who Shape Yeşilçam: Atıf Yılmaz,” organized by IBB Culture and the Tourism and Travel Agencies Foundation. The event, held on Saturday, December 28, at Beyoğlu Cinema, began with a screening of the Atıf Yılmaz documentary and was followed by a rich discussion exploring the thematic layers and discursive elements frequently found in the director's films.

At the “Ants Jam 2.0” event held at IKU Design Factory on December 19-20, Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Disabled Student Unit Board Member, Assist. Prof. Ömür Kınay Alkan delivered her opening speech titled “We Are Also in the Game” in which she conveyed the issue of disability in digital games in the context of Sociology of Disability.

In the two-day event organized in cooperation with YTU METAM, Assist. Prof. Ömür Kınay Alkan also took on the role of mentoring the teams competing with their game designs focused on accessibility awareness and disability-inclusive game design. The Awareness Club, in which Assist. Prof. Ömür Kınay Alkan takes part as the advisor, also supported the event as the sponsor club.

The Psychology Club organised a talk titled "Healing Through Movement: The Power of Sports and Psychology" to introduce students to the subfields of psychology. Sports Psychologist Deren Yelmen participated as a speaker in the event held on Wednesday, December 11th, in the first-floor multipurpose hall of the Ataköy building on the Bakırköy campus.

As part of the “Physical Environmental Control 2” course, led by Prof. Dr. Esra Bostancıoğlu from the Department of Architecture, students visited the technical facilities of our university on December 17, 2024, with the contributions of the Department of Construction and Technical Affairs. Staff from the department gave detailed explanations about the systems and components related to hot water supply, heating, cooling, fire safety, and electrical installations in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus.

The Psychology Club organised a seminar titled "Psychology in the Business World: Organisational Psychology" to introduce students to the subfields of psychology. Psychologist Nil Madi participated as a speaker in the event held on Tuesday, December 10th, in the third-floor multipurpose hall of the Ataköy building on the Bakırköy campus.

The Psychology Club organised a talk titled "Being an Existentialist-Oriented Psychologist" in which the concept of existentialism, one of the sub-schools of psychology, was discussed. Clinical Psychologist Damla Şevval Zade participated as a speaker in the event held on Tuesday, December 17th, in the first-floor multi-purpose hall of the Ataköy building on the Bakırköy campus.

The Department of Foreign Languages Education will organize a trip to the “Magnum in Istanbul: The Haves and Have Nots” photo exhibition at Bulgur Palas in Fatih on Saturday, January 4th in order to raise awareness among students about the universality, protection and violations of human rights.

The İKÜMED Reading Club continues its journey with the book "A Memento for Istanbul" by author Ahmet Ümit.
