İstanbul Kültür University (İKÜ) Head of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver published a message regarding IKU agenda which has changed with the New Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19).

My Dear Kültür Family,

We're halfway through our 2020 journey. As a country and as a world, we spent the second quarter of the year in the shadow of quarantine. Calendars now point out normalisation. Every institution, every sector will rebuild the normalization process defined in the framework of the standards within its own realities and conditions. We, as a university, are working to establish our post-pandemic order. Here, as Kültür family, our vision of life and unique experiences that we have been able to filter through the crisis will be the most valuable resource for us.

My Dear Kültür Family,

The pandemic, despite all its difficulties, also carries extraordinary potential. We are on the verge of a social evolution. The status quo is over! the question "Which of us have pronounced the name of the woman first and more?" unfortunately, is still a matter of debate. However, the place of gender, property, colors on the collars and quantities in the hierarchy is gradually coming to an end. Here and in communication, the rings of the chain of command are unraveled. The crisis demands new skill sets from us. Features such as digital reflexes, creativity in online, agility, analytical thinking, empathy are becoming more and more important. In the recovery process, those who try to develop these competencies and transfer their achievements to life practices will make a difference. In summary, Corona is building a new culture. It will not happen immediately, there will be no tomorrow, it will take some time, it will push a little, but eventually a new culture will arise

As a university, it should be our main goal to improve our place, role and impact in this process. We also have individual responsibilities in the journey out of the crisis. One of our responsibilities is to focus more on developing our digital reflexes within our expertise. We have to allocate the individual effort and time required for this. Online learning and teaching competencies, business processes; being creative, functional and sustainable is no longer an option but an imperative. I wholeheartedly believe that all of my workmates will show the necessary attention and care in this regard.

The presence, health and safety of every individual in Kültür family are very valuable in the order that we will establish in the pandemic crisis and the aftermath, which is a milestone in the history of the institution. We overcame the most difficult times of the crisis together.  We sometimes had extremely stressful, long and tiring meetings in the difficult climate of the crisis with our Board of Directors, Senate, Deans and Administrative Units. Each friend worked devotedly and patiently for the sustainability of work and education. On this occasion, once again, I would like to thank my workmates working in all our staff.

My Dear Kültür Family,

While we slowly leaving June behind, I would like to share some information about the main topics of July. Our work on the scenarios we plan to return to university will continue in July. In the next week, we will share our plans that we prepared within the alternative scenarios by considering the work-life balance during the health, safety and crisis periods.

Summer education is the primary agenda of July for our students and academic staff. There is a serious academic and technological effort on the background of our summer education, which will start as of July 1st and be realized with distance education. In addition, summer education has an important effect on the academic and technological reputation and recognition of our university. I wish success to our academicians who will teach summer with a new experience and to our administrative staff who will carry out their business processes.

In July, we will have completed our 2020 Preference period planning. The 2020 preference period, which will be shaped by the health, safety and economic concerns of young people and families, will be greatly affected by the realities of the pandemic. This year, we worked in two main scenarios, digital and physical, taking into account the facts of the new normal. Exam results will be announced on July 28, 2020. According to the results, our forecast is that the preference period will be in the first week of August. In July, we will continue to share with you the information that has been clarified regarding our organization of choice days. On this occasion, I wish my colleagues in the Kültür family to share their excitement with the excitement of the exams, and success in our youth.

Dear Kültür Family,

The process we live in is a common experience with all its difficulties, risks, pros and cons. The antidote to the crisis is a learning mobilization that we will carry out together. Belonging and devotion are our shared responsibility. Of course, there will be differences in interpretation in our view of events, memorization will be broken, comfort areas will be shaken. Resistance to digital, social and economic changes triggered by the pandemic will only extend the way out of the crisis. Our task here; Hugging the future with hope and maintaining the balance between the realities of the day, working on scenarios, giving importance to innovation, maintaining teamwork, calm, empathy and transparency, and most importantly, remembering that we are always on the same ship… We have the power to do it all together.

The coronavirus crisis, which emerged between the expectations that China, which is on the way to become the new economic superpower of the future, will be the locomotive with the USA, and the infrastructure that will connect the country to high-value markets and raw materials resources will be completed, in reshaping the world system of China. In particular, Trump blows cold war winds between the US and China by defining the most serious scourge of the last century as the "Chinese virus" and placing China in a category of "yellow threat". The two sides will want to see allies and partners with them, and this seems to trigger a new blocking effort.

On Monday June 29, 2020, Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) vocational school held a virtual ceremony to congratulate the first 3 students who finished the Business Management Program with their degrees. In addition to our academics, Zeynep Özdemir, the first of the 2018-2019 academic year program, and Nurdan Kadir, the second of the program, attended the ceremony, which was moderated by lecturer N. Gözde Bircan, the head of the business management program, and lecturer Emine Anik, the program advisor.

The ceremony started when our graduates shared their feelings and opinions about the past year. In the ceremony that continued with the presentation prepared for the students who ranked in the 2019-2020 academic year; Kardelen Altun (first), Letisya Matosoğlu (second) and Songül Demir (third) were congratulated for their success. Emotional moments were experienced at the end of the ceremony, in which the emotions, thoughts and opinions of our students regarding the meaning and importance of the day were also included.

“The Kayseri Castle Archaeological Museum” project, which was completed in 2019 and whose design belongs to Prof. Dr. Zafer Ertürk, Kadir Uyanık and Assoc. Prof. Emel Birer, one of the faculty members of IKU Department of Architecture, and which has been implemented within the scope of IKU R & D, has been selected to Turkey Architecture Yearbook 2019. The Turkish architecture yearbook, developed by the Arkitera Architecture Center, aims to discuss, exhibit and document the built environment produced by local or foreign designers in the last year. This year, the selection committee consisting of Sibel Dalokay, Burak Pelenk, Esin Tercan, Şebnem Yücel and Prof. Dr. Ayhan Usta, faculty member of IKU Department of Architecture, selected 40 out of the 130 projects evaluated. “Kayseri Inner Castle Archaeology Museum” was also one of these projects and was eligible to enter the yearbook.

Lecturer Pelin Tuna, Head of the Program of Tourism and Hotel Management at Istanbul Kültür University, was deemed worthy of the “Contactless Award” after the evaluation made by the readers of By Protokol Magazine. Barış Yazıcı, the grant holder of the Protocol Magazine, visited Pelin Tuna and presented her award. Lecturer Pelin Tuna and Barış Yazıcı, who chatted for a while during the visit; evaluated the reflections of COVID-19, which influenced the world and our country, from economy to education.

In addition, our teacher who gave information about the education system and studies during the visit also thanked the Protocol Magazine team and readers for the award. During the award presentation, Pelin Tuna and Barış Yazıcı had photos taken together.

Sıddık Güvendi, one of the faculty members of Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Department of Architecture, and his team's project was selected second among 107 projects in the “Torbalı Municipality Municipal Service Building, Market Place and Car Park and the design of the Surrounding Area National Architectural Project competition”. Zehra Yeğin, one of the graduates of the Department of Architecture also participated in the project with Lecturer Güvendi. We congratulate our teacher and graduate and wish for the continuation of their successful work.

Sixth of the “jces.webinars: childhood under the quarantine” themed webinars organized in collaboration with Istanbul Kültür University and Journal of Childhood, Education & Society (JCES), held on Thursday, July 2 under the title of “Turkish and Chinese Parents' Experiences during COVID-19: Discussion on Research Results ”.

In the webinar, whose scientific management was undertaken by JCES Founding Editor and faculty member of the Faculty of Education Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Toran and moderated by Necmettin Erbakan University faculty member Dr. Mehmet Mart; Dr. Yuwei Xu  from England (University College London) and Dr. Ramazan Sak (Van Yüzüncü Yıl University) made their presentations. The experiences of the parents working in the covid-19 quarantine process with their children, the skills of Turkish and Chinese parents and  their changing attitudes towards their children, and the results of their research to witness the developmental change they noticed in their children were discussed. Many people who were interested in  immigration and children issues attended to webinar, which lasted about 1.5 hours,

71 of the 476 projects that the Cinema Support Board of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism evaluated in the third term applications of 2020 were deemed worthy of support by the Ministry. As a result of the evaluation, Res. Assist. Sezer Ağgez, one of the faculty members of the Communication and Design Department, was entitled to be supported by the Cinema General Directorate of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, titled “40 Years After Fatma”. We congratulate him and his team and wish them continued success.

“2019-2020 Academic Year Fall Semester Most Successful Project Exhibition and Award Ceremony” was held by the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design between 11.00-12.30 on Friday, July 3, 2020. We would like to congratulate all the students whose projects are entitled to be exhibited and who have been awarded the prize, and wish for the continuation of their success.

One of our academicians at the Department of Architecture of Istanbul Kültür University Prof. Dr. Ayhan Usta and his team came in 3rd in the category of “7th Region” of the "Istanbul is Yours, Golden Horn Coasts Design Competition" opened by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Parks, Gardens and Green Areas Department.

The second of the "Entrepreneurship Models Webinar Series" entitled ‘’Job Belongs to Knower of it’’ organized by Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School was held on Friday, June 26 at 21.00.

Turaş Gaz Armatürleri Sanayi ve Ticaret A. Ş. Chairman of the Board and Founding President of the Armature Association Gökhan Turhan held an interview with the theme "Future of Industry in the New Normal". Istanbul Chamber of Industry, White Goods Association side Industrialists, the Turkish Industrialists and Business People Association, Turkey Chambers and Stock Exchanges Union, Silivri Industrialists and Businessmen Association of Turkey like many rooms and Turhan actively involved in associations, the experience with a sectoral perspective shared with our participants.

In his presentation, Gökhan Turhan firstly talked about the armature industry and gave information about the products he introduced to the market. By explaining the projects he realized, he gave examples about the scientists that each entrepreneur can inspire from history.

He said that Turaş Gaz, which is among the 2-3 companies in the world as a gas armature manufacturer, has its own R&D center since 2017 with innovative approaches. Within the body of Turaş Gaz; In addition to the center, which has more than 250 patent applications and an annual average of 20 patent applications, Turhan also mentioned Turmach automation systems, which are also shaped by their own breakthroughs, producing their own technology and production lines. Giving information about TurasEurope in Milan, Italy, Turhan also spoke about the adventures of TurasAmerica in the Rhode Island region of America, the last attempt of Turaş Gaz. Turhan, who shared information about many initiatives that he had done at home and abroad, answered the questions by drawing a road map for our young candidates who want to realize their own venture.

At the same time, Turhan gave information about the Turhan Museum, consisting of more than 1200 registered inventory and more than 5000 works of art, linked to the Hagia Sophia Museum, which contains kitchen materials that reflect the diversity and aesthetics of the Ottoman era since 2006, to preserve our cultural heritage and pass it on to future generations. He also showed some of the valuable pieces from his collection to our participants. Speaking about the values he added to our country with his “Turhan Museum”, which he created with his valuable collections as part of his social responsibility project, Turhan inspired our participants by giving them different perspectives.

Istanbul Kültür University graduates of Department of Architecture,  Furkan Şanlı and Burak Emre Ekşi  won "Purchase Award" in the "Game-Recreation Products" category of the "Istanbul is your City Furniture and Game-Recreation Products Design Competition" organized by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Parks, Gardens and Green Areas". We congratulate our graduates and wish them continued their success.

Instructor İrem Aydoğdu’s article, a member of IKU Vocational School Public Relations and Publicity Program, titled “Evaluation of the New Coronary Virus (COVID-19) Epidemic in the Context of Communication Models Used in the Health Sector: An Investigation on the Instagram Sharing of Private Hospitals in Istanbul” was published in the 71st issue of the International Journal of Social Research, June 2020.

The Cartoon and Animation Department will organize a webinar titled “Hyper Casual Game Design with Özgür Özköylü” to inform students about Hyper Casual game design, which is an area of interest in the industry. The event, where Lead 3D Artist Özgür Özköylü will be a speaker, will be held on Tuesday, 7 July between 13.00-14.00 via the Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application.

IKU Vocational School will organize an e-seminar titled “Foreign Trade, Entrepreneurship and Employment in the New Economy”, which will discuss the future of customs, logistics and employment in the light of new developments in the foreign trade sector. The event, onel Customs Consultancy General Manager Osman Karatay will be a speaker, will be held on Wednesday, 8 July, at 8 pm via Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application.

Can you tell us who is Selçuk Terkan with 2-3 sentences?

I was born in Istanbul in 1975. Between 2001 and 2008, I worked as the Department of Information Systems and technologies of our university. Even though I needed to leave my institution on October 2008, due to family issues, I returned to my work on April 2012 thanks to Ender Rıza Ekici, then the Manager of the Department of Information Systems and Technologies, now our General Secretary. I am continuing to my job as the Manager of the Support Group since January 2020.
