Istanbul Kültür University (İKÜ) celebrated the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of The Turkish Republic with a ceremony held in the front garden of the Ataköy Campus on Sunday, October 29, at 10:00. The ceremony, held with the participation of IKU Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, İKEK Chairperson of the Board of Directors & Vice Chairperson of the Board of Trustees Ful Akıngüç, İKEK Board Member & İKÜ Board of Trustees Member Lale Akıngüç, IKU Rector Prof. Dr. Fadime Üney Yüksektepe, IKU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Gülce Öğrüç Ildız, IKU Secretary General Ender Rıza Ekici, IKU deans and IKU academic-administrative staff, was started off with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem. The ceremony was concluded with the presentation of a wreath to the Atatürk Bust.

Turkish Physicist Furkan Öztürk, a genius at Harvard University, met with MOBİGEN students on October 30, 2023. 2023. The event was held at the Prof. Dr. Atilla Özalpan Seminar Hall in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus. In addition to our Chairperson of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Gülce Öğrüç Ildız and academicians, MOBİGEN undergraduate and graduate students and Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa students attended. Furkan Öztürk explained to our students the steps of this journey leading to the discovery of the importance of homochirality in the formation of the first living cell and life 4 million years ago, one of the greatest mysteries of science. In addition to Furkan Öztürk, detailed information about MOBİGEN research laboratories and scientific studies was shared with Cengiz Ultav, one of our Board of Trustees Members, and Orhan Bursalı, one of the writers of Cumhuriyet Newspaper.

Thanks to the efforts and endeavours of Sports Coordinator Dr. İsmail Çakıt working within the Student Life, Career and Alumni Advisory Unit (Kültür Point) İstanbul Kültür University became a member of the European University Sports Association (EUSA).  The European University Sports Association (EUSA) additionally offers membership to national university sports organisations, universities and other organizations to which it has granted EUSA Associate Member Status, under the title of “Associate Members”.  With that, İstanbul Kültür University was granted the right to benefit from various advantages of being an “Associate Member” of EUSA.

To date, the EUSA Executive Board has granted EUSA associate member status to 82 universities from 17 countries.  Being one of such selective universities will prove to be very advantageous to İstanbul Kültür University and to IKU students in future sports activities.

Universities granted EUSA Associate Member Status can benefit from the following advantages:

- Being a member of EUSA Universities Club,
- Participating in EUSA Events with a reduced Entry Fee (determined by the EUSA Executive Board) for the students and teams,
- Given Priority in the selection of organizers of EUSA Sports and Educational Events,
- Using the EUSA Associate Member Logo for their own internal promotion.

A change of Seat took place with the Prof. Dr.  Çimen Atak, who had been serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Letters since 2019 leaving the Seat to Prof. Dr. Ömür Ceylan.  At the customary change of Seat ceremony of the Faculty of Sciences and Letters Prof. Dr. Ömür Ceylan thanked Prof. Dr. Çimen Atak on the behalf of all the faculty members and stated that they will be paying attention to the opinions and experiences of their predecessor.

Archiol (www.archiol.com) is an international competition platform established to support aspiring designers around the world and to reward innovative and creative designs.

Gökçe Karabulut, a graduate from Istanbul Kültür University (İKÜ) Department of Architecture, participated in the "Retreat Center 2023" competition on the Archiol platform with their 2022-23 Spring Term graduation project. The IKU graduate was shortlisted in the international architectural project competition and was among the top 17 students.

The main goal of the competition was to investigate the deep effects of the man-made surroundings on the human psyche and behavior as well as the complex relationship between space and human experience with its physical, mental, and emotional dimensions. Among the international participants who tried to investigate how the relationships humans establish with the man-made and natural surroundings are shaped by the transformative power of architectural design, IKU graduate Gökçe Karabulut with their project titled "KILYATOPIA", received the positive feedback of a “masterful design” by focusing on walls made of stone and rammed earth, developing textures and atmospheres, as well as an interesting strategy to interact with the space and the program.

As a part of the 2023-2024 Fall Semester activities of Istanbul Kültür University Department of Architecture, a conference titled "Architecture as Collision" was held on Thursday, October 26, between 15.00-17.00 at the Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center in the Ataköy Campus.  At the event, to which  Master Architect Ömer Selçuk Baz attended as the speaker, the processes taken on after the  February 2023 earthquakes effecting the 11 south-eastern Turkish provinces were discussed in terms of the domain of architecture.

A social responsibility project was carried out in collaboration with Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School Graphic Design Program and Karteks Konfeksiyon A.Ş. in memory of the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye. Within the scope of the project, the t-shirt designed by our Graphic Design Program students Hatice Kaçmaz and Berke Salman were produced in the amount of 34 thousand 169 by Karteks Konfeksiyon A.Ş. and were gifted to village schools, sports clubs and department students all over Türkiye.

We congratulate our students Ege Üresin and Ahmet Furkan Ataklı, who designed voluntarily, and Hatice Kaçmaz and Berke Salman, whose designs were implemented, for their social responsibility awareness, efforts and success.

As a part of the festivities of the "100th Anniversary of The Founding of the Turkish Republic” activities organized by the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBİGEN), Faculty of Arts and Sciences hosted Prof. Dr. Nihat Aktaç from Trakya University and Prof. Dr. Feza Günergun from Istanbul University. On Monday, October 23, Prof. Dr. Nihat Aktaç gave a panel talk titled "A German Scientist in the Republic Era: Ord. Prof. Dr. Curt Kosswig" while on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Prof. Dr. Feza Günergun gave a panel talk titled "The Scientific Revolution of the Republic: Institutions, Scientists and Research". In the events held in Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall, scientific developments in the early periods of the newly established Turkish Republic were discussed.

Our Head of Department of Arts and Cultural Management Assoc. Prof. Reyhan Uludağ Eraslan was deemed worthy of the "Art Honor Award" at the 3rd International Feminenartfest organized by Üsküdar University within the scope of the "100th Anniversary Celebrations of the Republic". At the event moderated by Festival Art Director Tamer Levent, Yeşilçam Actress Lale Belkıs presented our professor with her award.

As a part of the "100th Anniversary Celebrations of The Founding of The Turkish Republic" festivities Sports competitions were organized by Kültür Noktası  among IKU students namely competitions of table tennis, football tennis and chess.  The IKU students who won the matches held in the backyard of the Ataköy Campus between 25-27 October are as follows;

The compilation book published by Istanbul Kültür University (İKÜ) Publishing House and edited by Prof. Dr. M. Mustafa Erdoğdu, Prof. Dr. Sinan Alçın, Assoc. Prof. Deniz Dilara Dereli, Assist. Prof. Derya Bilgin and Res. Assist. İlkay Akbaş, includes 21 different studies that evaluate global problems such as the Russia-Ukraine war, major migration movements, US-China-oriented trade tensions, along with issues such as digitalization, global warming and sustainable production, especially analysed from the perspective of Turkey.

Our basketball, volleyball, rugby, handball, swimming, tennis and football teams, which will represent our University in the 2023-2024 Academic Year, are preparing for inter-university sports competitions at an intense pace after the auditions. Our basketball, volleyball and handball teams are at Kültür College Sports Hall every weekday, our football team is at Bahçelievler Provincial Special Administration Stadium 2-3 days a week, our swimming team is at Bakırköy Atatürk Sports and Life Village swimming pool 2-3 days a week, our rugby team is at Avcılar Belediye Firüzköy Stadium 2-3 days a week, our tennis teams are at GSB Bakırköy, continuing their work on tennis courts and private courts.

Mustafa Atakan, Ela Gündüz and Arda Güney, members of Istanbul Kültür University Molecular Biology and Genetics Club, won the second prize among 14 teams as the "İKÜGEN" team in the "BioQuest" quiz competition held within the scope of the "BioExpo 2023 Life Sciences Fair" between 25-27 October 2023. . Our students; They received a Lab Academy Digital Education Platform gift certificate worth 9 thousand 600 TL, an ISO14644.COM gift card worth 15 thousand 600 TL and an online education certificate from Bioinformy.com worth 10 thousand 500 TL. We congratulate club advisor Res. Assist. Enes Bal and our students who received awards in the competition and wish them continued success.

Kültür Point will organize "Turkish Sign Language Training" to raise awareness about the deaf and hearing-impaired people in society and to contribute to the personal and professional development of our students. The training, which will be given by instructor Eser Dalyan, will be held on 6-7 November 2023 between 15.00-18.00 in the 1st floor multi-purpose hall in our Ataköy campus.

Leadership and Management Club will organize a conversation titled "LEADERManager 2023" where people who have established themselves in business life will talk about their experiences on leadership. The event, where Danone Research and Innovation Director Arda Diribaş, LOFT General Manager Aydın Süha and Renault Group Head of Data and Digital Transformation Emre Mollaahmetoğlu will be speakers, will be held on Tuesday, November 7, between 09.00-18.00 at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center.

The Department of Industrial Engineering will organize a technical trip to DeFacto Warehouse Outlet in Çerkezköy on Tuesday, November 7, between 08.00-14.00, to show students warehouse planning and processes within the warehouse.

The Department of Radio, Television and Cinema will host Director Mehmet Güleryüz, President of SETEM (Professional Association of Cinema and Television Work Owners). In the seminar to be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 10:00 in the 1G05 multi-purpose hall in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus, Güleryüz will talk about the importance of work ownership and the details that need to be taken into consideration within the scope of the event called "4. My Work Educational Applications".

"Marketing Summit" will be organized in cooperation with the Effective Communication Club, Department of Communication Arts, Department of New Media and Communication, Rock'n Culture Club, Dance Club and New Media and Communication Club, in order to support career planning processes of students. The event, where experts in their fields will be speakers, will be held on November 7-8, between 11.00-17.00, at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus.

A conference titled "Function of Supreme Courts of Jurisdiction, Rule of Law and Principle of the State of Law" will be organized by the Faculty of Law. The event, where T.R. First President of the Supreme Court of Appeals Mehmet Akarca and T.R. Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Public Prosecutor Bekir Şahin will be the speaker, will be held on Tuesday, November 7, at 11:00 in the twin halls of the 6th floor of the Bahçelievler campus.

A conference titled "Next to Atatürk - Memories of 12 Years" will be held by the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences within the scope of "100th Anniversary Celebrations of the Republic". The event, where the 43rd and 44th Term Turkish Football Federation President, Bureaucrat & Writer Mustafa Kemal Ulusu will be the speaker, will be held on Tuesday, November 7, at 13.00 at the Küçükçekmece Campus Conference Hall.

"Turkish Folk Music Choir Auditions" will be held by Orchestra İKÜ on Tuesday, November 7, between 16.00-18.00 in the multi-purpose hall on the 3rd floor of the Bakırköy campus Ataköy building.

In cooperation with Kültür Point and the Department of Foreign Languages, "Business English Training" will be organized for our students and graduates via CATS on Wednesday, November 8.

A trip to Ankara will be organized with the participation of 100 students within the scope of "100th Anniversary of the Republic Activities in cooperation with the T.R Ministry of Youth and Sports Istanbul Provincial Directorate and IKU Young Office. On Wednesday, November 8, at 06:00, we will set off from the Bakırköy campus, Ataköy building, and first visit the Turkish Grand National Assembly and then Anıtkabir.

The Department of International Relations will organize a talk titled "Israeli-Palestinian Conflict from Past to Present", where the Israeli-Palestinian issue will be presented from a historical perspective. The event, where retired Ambassador Dr. Oğuz Çelikkol will be the speaker, will be held on Wednesday, November 8, at 14.00 in the ground floor conference hall of the Küçükçekmece campus.

A talk titled "Atatürk's 'Hyperreal' Memory" will be held by the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema within the scope of "Atatürk Commemoration Day" events. The event, where Assist. Prof. Ümmühan Molo from Yeni Yüzyıl University will be the speaker, will be held on Wednesday, November 8, at 14.00 in the 1st floor multi-purpose hall in the Bakırköy campus Ataköy building.

Kültür Point will organize "Turkish Sign Language Training" in order to contribute to the comprehensive development of the society about the deaf and hearing impaired people and their personal and professional development of knowledge. The training, which will be given by instructor Eser Dalyan, will be held on 8-9 November 2023, between 15.00-18.00, in the classroom named 2A-08 , in the Incirli building of the Bakırköy campus.

Tourism and Hotel Management Program will organize applied training to support students' career planning processes. The training, which will be given by Gökçe Hamdemir , the manager of human resources of Hyatt Regency Hotel , will be held on Wednesday, November 8 at 15.00 at Ataköy Hyatt Regency Hotel.

"Diction and Effective Body Language Training" will be organized by Kültür Point , so that the participants can speak Turkish effectively and use body language correctly. The training to be given by Özlem Berkit will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, between 15.00-18.00 in the 2nd floor multi-purpose hall in the Bakırköy campus Ataköy building.

The "16th National Preschool Teaching Student Congress" will be held by the Faculty of Education, Department of Preschool Teaching, between 9-11 November, with the main theme of "Early Childhood Education in the 100th Anniversary of the Republic: The Role of the Teacher". At the congress to be held in our Bakırköy campus Ataköy building; Students, teachers and academicians , undergraduate and graduate on the national level, will come together to share experiences and scientific studies on early childhood education.

In cooperation with the New Media and Communication Club and the Department of New Media and Communication, a panel talk titled "Career Management in New Media" will be held in order to convey the basic principles of career management in new media to students. The event, where İKÜ Kültür Point Education Activities Planning and Organization Specialist Assistant  Mert Efe Anğın will be the speaker, will be held on Tuesday, November 7, at 11:00 in the AK ZA-1 classroom in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus.

The Law Club will organize an event titled "Decision Review" in which the Constitutional Court decision regarding the right to a fair trial will be examined. Assist. Prof. Ceren Yıldız , one of the faculty members of İKÜ USA Constitutional Law of Department, will be the moderator of the event, which will be held on Thursday, November 9, at 13.00 in the Faculty of Law Bahçelievler Campus Amphitheater III. 

A panel talk titled "Arbitration in International Maritime Law" will be organized by the International Law Club in order to support the career planning processes of Faculty of Law students. The event, where lawyer Cem Congar will be the speaker, will be held on Thursday, November 9, at 14.00 at the Bahçelievler campus.

Kültür Point will organize the "Addictive Relationships and Addicted Personalities Workshop" to inform participants about addiction. The last of the training to be given by Dr. psychologist. Serap Duygulu, titled "Flirting Violence", will be held on Thursday, November 9, between 15.00-18.00 at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus.

Dolmabahçe Palace will be visited by Kültür Point on Friday, 10th of November between 10.00-12.00, as part of the "10th of November Atatürk Commemoration Day".

As part of the Department of Communication and Design Art Workshops event series, a "Typography Workshop" will be held for students. The event, in which lecturer Maşallah Sincar from Haliç University will be the speaker, will be held on Friday, November 10, between 12.00-18.00, in classroom number 1B 07-09 in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus.
