A protocol has been signed by our Rector Prof. Dr. Hanife Öztürk Akkartal, Prof. Dr. Alim Kaya, Head of Psychological Counselling and Guidance M.S and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Engin Deniz, General Vice President of the Turkish Psychological Counselling and Guidance Association on March 3, 2022 at our Ataköy Campus. In the scope of the protocol, International 23rd Psychological Counselling and Guidance Congress will be carried out in the home ownership of Istanbul Kültür University (IKU).

A meeting has organized in order to introduce the Labor Agreement signed by the Faculty of Architecture between Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) and Deutsche Management Akademie Niedersachsen (DMAN) to our Faculty of Architecture students, with the participation of our Rector Prof. Dr. Hanife Öztürk Akkartal. The meeting, in which the 3rd and 4th grade students from the Department of Architecture and the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design attended, held at 11.00 on Monday, February 28, 2022 at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall.

With the collaboration of the Faculty of Architecture, Architecture Club and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Club, the event titled “Architects and Interior Architects are On the Stage” on March 2, Wednesday between 14.00-16.00. In the event, in which Akıngüç Auditorium and Arts Center was the homeownership, the students who were valedictorians and who earned the awards in the contests were presented with their certificate of achievements. The ceremony ended with IKU Orchestra’s performances.

Within the scope of the cooperation between Istanbul Kültür University and Les Clefs d'Or Turkey, the "Concierge" course was started to be given in the Program of Tourism and Hotel Management of IKU Vocational School for the first time in Turkey. We believe that it will be a very productive lesson for our students, with the contributions of Les Clefs d'Or Turkey Board Member and also the Education Director of the association, Kerem Katioglu. We would like to thank all members of the association, especially Les Clefs d'Or Turkey Chairman of the Board Adnan Öner and Secretary General Ömer Sarıoğlu.

The Architecture Club organized an interview titled "After IKU"  for architects who graduated from IKU Department of Architecture to share their professional life experiences with our students.  The event, in which Dicle Hökenek, Celil Demirsoy, Bedirhan Koç, Yıldız Bayer, Aslı Altunkaynak, Serra Bozanoğlu, Cansu Özdil and Hamza Sabano were speakers, took place on Monday, 28 February at 15.00 at the Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center.

Within the scope of "İÇM0511-0612 Interior Architecture Project V-VI" and "IAD0511-0612 Interior Design Studio V-VI" courses given in the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design; A field trip to the Fatih region was held with 3rd year Turkish and English Program students, led by Prof. Dr. Rana Kutlu, Prof. Dr. Ayhan Usta, Asst. Prof. Vehbi Tosun, Lecturer Yasin Altıpat, Lecturer Tuğçe Rizeli Bilgi, Res. Asst. Furkan Evliyaoğlu and Res. Asst. Kadir Yesir.

Emin Aksan, an academician from Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Vocational School (MYO), and Nuray Bayram, the 1st Class Representative of the Program of Medical Documentation and Secretarial, visited Pınar Bayramgürler, CEO of Ataköy and Family Hospitals. In the productive meeting, the development of health programs, internships and sectoral cooperation were discussed. 

Assist. Prof. Mehmet Tosun, one of the academicians from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, our students Berk Bensol, Murat Sain from the undergraduate program and Ayşenur Kandemir from the graduate program, gathered with Kağan Mehmet Usta, Mayor of İznik in order to evaluate the last works of the İznik Konak Bazaar Restoration. In the scope of the project, which is expected to be realized soon, while 3 streets will be enclosed with a steel roof, it is planned to harmonize the frontispieces of İznik Bazaar, which is consist of four blocks, with its history. During the meeting, Kağan Mehmet Usta, Mayor of İznik stated that he is expecting our students’ projects in order to actualize the Story House project.

Digital Marketing Specialist Esma Nur Besle was the guest of the "Electronic Marketing" course given by Meri Taksi Deveciyan, one of the academicians of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. In the course attended by the students of the Department of Business Administration and the Department of International Trade and Finance, the subject of digital marketing was explained in detail.

In the home ownership of Istanbul Kültür University Faculty of Architecture Department of Architecture, two workshops will be organized within the collaboration of Istanbul Kültür University and Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, between March 5-6, 2022 in Muğla and Istanbul, in order to present the results in the “ARCHITECTURAL EPISODES 02: NEW DIALOGUES IN ARCHITECTURAL EDUCATION AND PRACTICE” conference. The main theme of the workshop, the forest fires in 2021, will be discussed in a panel to be held before the workshop by various actors of the field. The language of the panel, which will be held online via the ZOOM platform on Saturday, March 5, 2022, between 10:00 and 13:00, will be Turkish.

About the Workshop

 The workshop aims to evaluate the Muğla Fires within the scientific field, to carry out studies that can create a regional data for the discipline of architecture, to record the fire process, to document and visualize this process in the memory of the city, to bring together researchers from different disciplines to discuss the present and the future (including climate change issues). The presentations in the panel will greatly contribute to the production of the students who will participate in the workshop.

In cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture and AssiaX-G100 Universal Design & Lifestyle Network, an event titled "Empowering the Young Woman Talents in Design" will be held as part of March 8 International Women's Day. The event, which aims to bring together representatives of different countries and all young talents, will be held online on Tuesday, March 8 at 15.00.

The "Kültür Open 2022 Debate Tournament" will be organized by the Debate Club in order to enable students to gain experience in debating. The tournament, which will be held with the participation of names who have advanced debating knowledge and who have played in the finals of many tournaments, will be hosted by our Ataköy campus on 5-6 March 2022 (08.30-19.30 hours).

IKU Model United Nations Club will organize a conference titled "Model United Nations Istanbul Kültür University 2022 (İKÜMUN'22)" to discuss issues that are known and discussed worldwide in committees within the United Nations. The event, which will be attended by university and high school students, will be held on Saturday, March 5, between 09.00-19.00 at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center.

An event titled "IKU Assembly Simulation" will be organized by the Cultural Values ​​Preservation Club in order to show students and graduates how the legislative activities work as a model and to create an environment for discussion. The event will be held at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall on Sunday, March 6, between 10:00 and 18:00.

A talk titled "I Succeeded" will be held in cooperation with IKU Awareness Club and 118-T Sarıyer Leo Club. Dilistan Shipman, Turkey's First Female Associate Professor of Gastronomy, Gökben Keleş, Founder of the only University Sign Language Grove in Turkey, Nets Polyclinics Founder & GÜÇKADER President Hatice Uzgenç, Turkey's First Female Construction Site Manager Ayşen Ağma and Lawyer Tuba Torun will be the speakers at the event on Monday, 7 March at 19.30. It will be held at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center.

IKU Awareness Club and IKU Sign Language Choir students will collect sanitary pads in order to support women who cannot afford sanitary pads due to financial difficulty, between March 8-18, at Ataköy Campus. The donation made with the social responsibility project arranged in the scope of “March 8 International Women’s Day”, will be delivered to the El Ele Yaşam Association.

The Department of Foreign Languages will organize a talk titled "Woman = Life" within the scope of "March 8 International Women's Day" in order to emphasize importance of women in life and society. The event, where Attorney Nazlı Gülce Başak will be the speaker, will be held on Tuesday, March 8 at 11:00, at Şirinevler Campus C Block B1 Hall.

"Gender Inequality Symposium" will be organized by the IKU PDR Club in order to address the problems related to gender inequality in our country and to raise awareness about the issue. Assist. Prof. Tuğba Aydın Öztürk from Üsküdar University, Family and Couples Counselor Olcayto Ezgin and Expert Psychologist Caner Küçükpolat will be the speakers at the event which will be held on Tuesday, March 8, between 12:00 and 16:00, at the Basın Ekspres Campus Conference Hall.

Istanbul Kültür University Women and Social Research Unit (IKÜKAD) will organize a panel titled "Women's Day of Resistance and Struggle" as part of "March 8, International Women's Day". The event where Prof. Dr. Fatmagül Bertay from Istanbul University will be the speaker; It will be held at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall on Tuesday, March 8, at 13.30, under the moderation of Assoc. Prof. Sevgi Uçan Çubukçu.

Istanbul Kültür University Women and Social Research Unit (IKU-KAD) will screen the documentary titled "The Sin of Being a Woman" directed by Ümran Safter as part of the " March 8 International Women's Day" events. The event, which will be presented by Assoc. Prof. Aynur Soydan, will be held on Tuesday, March 8 at 15.00 at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall.

In cooperation with Effective Communication Club, New Media and Communication Club, +1 Down and Autism Awareness Club, Department of New Media and Communication, Department of Communication Arts and Program of Public Relations and Publicity; As part of the March 8 International Women's Day events, a talk titled "Entrepreneur Ecosystem and Being a Woman Entrepreneur" will be held. The event, in which Jobtogo Founder Begüm Karslıoğlu will be the speaker, will be held on Tuesday, March 8 at 20:00 on CATS.

Our esteemed professor Prof. Dr. Atilla Özalpan, Founding Department Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN), will be commemorated with an event to be held on the 10th anniversary of his death. The event, where Prof. Dr. Ali Demirsoy from Hacettepe University will give a lecture titled "Bio-Geological Perspective on Global Warming" will be held on Wednesday, March 9, between 15.00-17.00 at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall.

The Department of Turkish Language and Literature will organize a conference titled "Mehmet Akif's Personality and the National Anthem" in order to address Mehmet Akif's personality and the place and importance of our National Anthem in Turkish cultural life. The event, in which Lecturer İsa Kocakaplan will be the speaker, will be held on Thursday, March 10 at 14.00 at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall.

Kültür Point will organize a conference titled “The National Anthem and Mehmet Akif Ersoy on the 101st Anniversary” within the scope of “March 12 The Acceptance of the National Anthem”. The event, where writer Orhan Çekiç will be a speaker, will be held on Thursday, March 10 at 15.00 on the Microsoft Teams platform.

Kültür Point will organize the "Thought and Idea Generating Workshop". The workshop, which will be carried out by the trainer Numan Aydınoğlu, will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 17.00 on CATS.

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) will bring together art lovers this time with the theater play "Ben Anadolu" on its 25th anniversary. Within the scope of "International Women's Day" events, the play will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 19.00 at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center; Women who have created Anatolia for thousands of years will meet in Güngör Dilmen's classic work with their stories spanning a whole history.

Kültür Point will organize “Diction and Effective Body Language Training” so that participants can speak Turkish effectively and use body language correctly. The training, which will be given by trainer İlknur Güneş, will be held on Friday, March 11, between 14.00-17.00 at Önder Öztunalı Hall.

Could you briefly describe yourself?  Who is Lecturer Meltem Çetinel in 2-3 sentences? 

I was born in 1990 in Izmir.  I graduated from Izmir Institute of Technology, Department of Architecture.  After completing my undergraduate education, I came to Istanbul and completed my master's degree at Istanbul Technical University, Department of History of Architecture.  Currently, I am continuing my doctorate education at the Middle East Technical University, Architecture History Program. 

If you had to describe Istanbul Kültür University in one word, what would that word be? 

I can only describe Istanbul Kültür University as a real "school" where I am not on the side of educators.  Because I am learning to be a really good academician on this path that I started as a research assistant and now continue with the title of lecturer.
