"Let Elazığ Not Be Cold”

Istanbul Kültür University (İKÜ) was not silent on the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Friday, January 24 in Sivrice district of Elazig. In collaboration with Kültür College Alumni Association (KÜMED) and Istanbul Kültür University Alumni and Members Association (İKÜMED), a charity campaign called “Let Elazığ Not Be Cold” was organized. Aid such as blankets, clothes, diapers, shoes / boots, toys, stationery, dry food, canned food, etc. that was collected at the stands opened at IKU Ataköy campus until Wednesday, January 29, was delivered to the AFAD Istanbul Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorate to be given to those in need. Aid consisting of products was delivered to Elazig on Saturday, February 1 and distributed. Thank you very much to everyone who supports.

Prof. Dr. Özge Çelik represented our University at TÜBİTAK “COST Info Day in Turkey” Meeting

Our Head of Molecular Biology and Genetics Department Dr. Özge Çelik attended the meeting titled TÜBİTAK ‘’COST Info Day in Turkey’’, held on Tuesday, January 21 at the TÜBİTAK Presidential Building Feza Gürsey Meeting Hall, representing IKÜ TPDB PrG-K.

Success of the Global Political Trends Unit (GPoT Center) in the category of "Best Think Tanks Affiliated to Universities"

In the “2019 Global Go To Think Tank Index” report prepared by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP), the IKU Global Political Trends Unit moved up one step and (GPoT Center) ranked 70th in the “Best Think Tanks Affiliated to Universities” category.

18th International Environment Short Film Festival

In collaboration with Istanbul Kültür University Radio and Television Technology Program, Bakırköy Municipality, Basad-Bakırköy Artists Association and Environmental Film Cooperation Association, “18th International Environment Short Film Festival ”will be held. Turkey's first and only “environment” themed short film festival accepts films in the genres of fiction, documentary and animation with environmental themes. The deadline for competition for short films whose duration does not exceed 20 minutes is March 1, 2020.

The award ceremony of the festival will be held on April 22, 2020 at 19:00 at the Istanbul Kültür University Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center.

Cooperation Protocol Signed Between Cinema and Television Department and Exit VR

Istanbul Kültür University (İKÜ) Cinema and Television Department has reached an agreement with Exit VR within the framework of university-industry cooperation in education. Within the scope of the signed protocol, 30% discount will be applied to the students and staff of our university until 11 June 2020.

Exit VR, which pioneered the distribution of world cinema in Turkey, a film from around the world qualified VR (Virtual Reality) movie-game is a platform formed to produce VR contents in Turkey by sharing with the audience.

Our students and staff will be able to benefit from the discount by entering “Kultur” in the discount code section or by specifying this code when making a reservation on the Exit VR website (https://www.exitvr-tr.com/).

Coca Cola Technical Trip

Industrial Engineering Club organized a technical trip to the Coca Cola factory under the supervision of Assist. Prof. İ. Ethem Tarhan, our academic from the Department of Industrial Engineering on Tuesday, February 4th.

Sectoral Cooperation between Public Relations and Publicity Program and Turna.com

Sectoral cooperation agreement was signed between İKÜ Vocational School Public Relations and Publicity Program and Turna.com, which operates in the fields of e-commerce and innovative product development. Within the scope of the signed protocol, our students will be offered internships, seminars and job opportunities in the fields of e-commerce and social media.

EVENTS OF THE WEEK

Suami Ramirez Concert

İstanbul Kültür University Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center continues to bring together beautiful events with culture and art lovers. The Akıngüç Stage will be hosted the Suami Ramirez Concert that will be held within the 2019-2020 Art Year on Thursday, February 13, 2020, between 19.00-21.00.

Çocukca Kültür Symposium

In collaboration with the Children's Studies Kültür Club and the Department of Basic Education, there will be an organisation under the name of “Çocukca Kültür Symposium” in order to find answers to the question of “How I Can Be More Useful To Children in Early Childhood?” and to make the people who work with children become more equipped. Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center will host the event and it will be held with the participation of experts in the field, on Wednesday, February 12, between 09.00-19.00.

Understanding and Telling the Brand

In collaboration with the Public Relations and Publicity Program and the Department of Communication Arts, there will be an interview titled “Understanding and Telling the Brand” in order to share the processes of branding and brand strategies so that students have an idea about the true stories. The event, in which Hem Dem Advertising Agency Founder and Agency Head Burşem Ege will be a speaker, will be held at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall on Tuesday, February 11, between 13.00-14.00.

“White Children of the Black Continent” Exhibition

İstanbul Kültür University Art Gallery (İKÜSAG) will host the “White Children of the Black Continent”, featuring portraits of African albinos in the fourth exhibition of the 2019-2020 art season. The exhibition, which includes the photographs taken by journalist and photographer Bünyamin Aygün in Tanzania, will be presented to the art lovers with the opening cocktail on Wednesday, February 12 at 15.00. The exhibition can be visited until March 11, 2020.

Vocational School Erasmus Information Seminar

The Public Relations and Publicity Program will organize the "Erasmus Information Seminar" for students who want to study or do internships abroad through the Erasmus program in the 2020-2021 academic year. The seminar, which will be given to Vocational School students, will be held on Monday, February 10, at 15.00-16.00 in the classroom on İncirli campus, İK 2A-01.

"Ah Şu Tasarım" Workmanship

Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department will organize an interview titled “Ah Şu Tasarım Workmanship” to support our students' career planning processes. The event, where Oruç Çakmaklı, one of the faculty members of Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Architecture, will be a speaker, will be held on Tuesday, February 11 at 14.00-16.00 at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall.

Russian Ark Movie Screening

İKÜ Cinema Club will show and analyze the movie named "Russian Ark" in the multi-purpose hall on the 1st floor at 15.00-18.00 on Tuesday, February 12.

PDU Talk

In cooperation with the Department of Foreign Languages and the Professional Development Unit, a “PDU Talk” event will be organized to strengthen communication between colleagues. The event that our lecturers Tuğba Aslan will make a presentation titled “Learner Based Research” will be held on Şirinevler campus in YDB-710 numbered class on Friday, February 14th at 15:30.

“Competition to Compete with Yourself” Award Ceremony

The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences will organize an award ceremony at the Basın Ekspres campus on Thursday, 13 February between 13.00-15.00 in order to distribute the awards and certificates to the students who have ranked in the competition titled “Competition to Compete with Yourself” on 29 November 2019.

Armenian High Schools Mentor-Menti Education

IKU Kültür point will organize mentoring and training for students of Armenian schools in Turkey. The training will be given by Meri Taksi Deveciyan, one of our lecturers, at the Erdal İnönü Seminar Hall on Thursday, February 13, between 09.00-13.00.

Alumni Mentoring Interm Evaluation Meeting

In collaboration with IKU Kültür Point and Soup Agency, an interm evaluation meeting will be held within the framework of the Graduate Mentoring program. The meeting, where Soup Agency owner Melek Ülkü Arısoy will be a speaker, will be held at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall on Thursday, 13 February at 18.30.

Undoubtedly, it is an important virtue to recognize people around them. So how well do we know the building blocks of the Kültür Family? We devoted this part of our agenda to our colleagues who have worked hard to move Istanbul Kültür University one step further.

Prof. Dr. Dursun Koçer – Department of Physics

I graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Science, Department of Mathematics and Physics in 1966. In the third year of my studentship, I started working in the department of Astronomy with the invitation of my teacher Prof. Dr. Nüzhet Gökdoğan. I retired from Istanbul University, where I spent 35 years, and started working at the Istanbul Kültür University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Mathematics and Computing. I served as the founding lecturer and the Head of Physics Department; Dean of the Faculty of Science and Letters between 2004-2008, Representative of the Interuniversity Board; and Founding Dean of the Faculty of Education between 2008-2012. I continue my career as a faculty member.

My acquaintance with Kültür Family dates back to very old years. In 1976, I met our Honorary President of the Board of Trustees, Master of Civil Engineering Fahamettin Akıngüç, Founder of Kültür Education Institutions. We were going to organize an international scientific meeting. I was working at Istanbul University at that time. We needed a sponsor to hold the meeting. I learned that Fahamettin teacher was very friendly to such events and then I went to him by appointment.

When I explained the subject, he listened carefully, asked questions, and then said "okay" without hesitation. He gave important support for those years and we were able to hold this international meeting. It was very valuable to see such a warm approach for a young academic. On this occasion, I present my gratitude once again to our teacher.

This meeting kept my communication with our teacher always close and until 1992, I came to Kültür College on various occasions and gave lectures and talks to students at all levels from kindergarten to high school. Our Head of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver called me in 1992. She was working on the foundation of Kültür Science High School. At that time, Prof. Dr. Çetin Bolcal was the Dean of Istanbul University Faculty of Science and I was the Vice Dean. He asked for academic support for Science High School and we gladly accept it, and thus, we took part in the establishment of Kültür Science High School in 1992. Shortly, my relationship with Kültür Family has never been broken since 1976. My IKU-IKEK excitement still continues.

Istanbul Kültür University is a work of Kültür College, which we celebrate its 60th anniversary, brought to Turkish higher education. Working in an educational institution that is the advocate of Atatürk's principles and revolutions and Republican achievements; It is very valuable in terms of both enriching the academic perspective and advocating, applying and enforcing contemporary educational principles.

I have been at the university for 18 years, I've saved a lot of memories but I want to tell you the most meaningful one. While I was working as the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Letters in 2008, our Honorary President of the Board of Trustees Master of Civil Engineering Fahamettin Akıngüç and our Head of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver invited me coffee and offered the position of Rectorate. I was very surprised; I never expected it, but I was honored.

If you need to explain Istanbul Kültür Universitywith just one word, what would that word be?

The statement said by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk "Culture is the foundation of the Republic of Turkey." is the best sentence describing Istanbul Kültür University so it is on the first page of the Constitution of Kültür.
