Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Istanbul Kültür University (İKÜ). Bahar Akıngüç Günver published a message about the IKU agenda, which has changed with the new Coronary Virus Disease (COVID-19).

Dear Kültür Family,

In addition to the pandemic crisis we share with the world, we discuss different agendas as a country. We left behind a busy week. We celebrated the 97th anniversary of the Lausanne Treaty defined as legal deed of Republic of Turkey by our lawyer friends on July 24. As a university consisting of 55 percent female employees, we closely followed the news regarding the Istanbul Convention. YKS results have been announced. Our youth performance; It was discussed on different parameters from training efficiency to pandemic stress. The results are quite thought-provoking. In summary, not only in the field of health; it is a fact that we need normalization in every aspect of life, in our mindset, our view of differences, respect for rights and freedoms, to listen and understand each other.

Dear Kültür Family,

As a university, an intense preference period awaits us until August 14 after the holiday. We will meet our candidate students in both campus and digital fields. On the other hand, the work of 2020-2021 will continue. New normal, new content, new curriculum, new educational technologies, new strategic plan, new working conditions, new definitions for leadership, empathy, generations, communication processes, new codes of behaviour, defence mechanisms, measures and risks… We are building a new culture together. It is not easy, but I believe that we will leave these days behind by combining the governance principles that are in the tradition of Kültür with the values ​​we have. We can succeed with the principles and values ​​of the Kültür Constitution guiding for good governance, our culture of doing business together, our resources, the power of creating value and positive thinking. The processes we have overcome in the harsh conditions of the crisis so far are a guarantee of what we can achieve as much as what we have achieved.

Seeing the output of the resources we devote to digitalization gave us hope and confidence. On the days when the crisis escalated, we were able to establish sentences that started with the fortunately. We continued our education service; we carried culture, science and art-based meetings to digital, and provided our business continuity with our virtual offices. We have embraced the social sensitivity in our genetics as Kültür during our pandemic period. We succeeded in mobilizing with our alumni and our association at the point of serving the society. Despite physical barriers at work and communication, we kept our dialogue alive. The effort of all our academic and administrative units in the national and international context was very valuable in the fields of psychological, social, occupational health and safety and technology. I thank all my colleagues who contributed.

Dear Kültür Family,

Over the past five months, the Kültür Agenda messages I've shared have progressed on a weekly basis. Sharing the processes regarding our struggle together with you with the principle of transparent communication was the main motivation of these messages. At the point we have reached today, we have created the routines of our business and training processes together. We have internalized our new normal standards. Our information and communication flows became clear. When we look at the big picture, we are far ahead of where we started. The share of healthy communication we have established here cannot be denied. While ending my agenda messages that I have shared with the Kültür Family for 19 weeks; I would like to thank all my colleagues who returned to my notes with their comments and feedback. I wish to be together on healthy and beautiful days.

Students of Istanbul Kültür University Human Resources Club organized a collage study with a theme of #noviolenceagainstwomen. The photographs prepared in black and white were shared on the social media account of the club with the contribution of the academic staff of IKU Vocational School who are sensitive to the subject.

The webinar series titled “Job Belongs to One Who Knows. Entrepreneurship Models”, organised by Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School, continued with an interview titled “Insurance Sector During and After COVID-19” on July 22, 2020, Wednesday. In the webinar, in which Dr. Hakan Özcan, Chairman of the Board of the General Insurance Association, the theorical and practical information was shared with the attendants.

In his speech Özcan indicated the importance of the insurance for the people, while he was explaining how the foundation of the insurance was created. Drawing the map of insurance sector from the beginning, Özcan also said that 1870 Fire of Pera was the millennial for sector’s Turkey leg. It was stated that the importance of insurance, which has come to the present with a very fast transformation, especially in terms of attracting foreign capital to our country, was still developing and open to opportunities, although insurance ranks second in our country in terms of finance sector. It was emphasized that health insurance products are in a rapid upward trend today, based on the insurance sector tailored to the needs.

Sharing detailed information for students who want to work in the insurance sector or become an agency by establishing their own ventures, Özcan touched upon the important points that should be considered at every stage of working life. Our contributor, who shared the issues that should be considered in the first years for the participants who will start the profession, stated that the insurance sector is still a very good opportunity. Emphasizing that an entrepreneur with a career goal and students should improve their language knowledge, Özcan stated that it is important for students to start working in professional organizations according to their interests, in terms of developing business relations.

Özcan, who took an active role in the General Insurance Association and was the Chairman of the Board, explained the activities and projects of the association, which has 700 members. He emphasized that one of the most important activities of the association is to develop internship opportunities for students by contacting the insurance companies' human resources departments. Indicating that Istanbul Kültür University is also open to collaborations, Özcan answered the questions of our participants and gave information about the curious subjects about the insurance industry.

Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School has invited Ahmet H. Gökşin, HAVAK Inc. General Manager and Chairman of the Board of ISKAV, on August 4, 2020 Tuesday for their webinar series titled “Job Belongs to One Who Knows. Entrepreneurship Models.”

In the seminar which was about the history of air-conditioning starting from 1844, it was mentioned about the machine invented in 1902 by, W. Carrier and how it created the basics of modern air-conditioning. Also, it was mentioned about the reason of the invention’s development until present is due to air circulation and cleaning, one of the requirements of our age. In addition to that, Gökçin talked about the sector, which is still developing itself, with his experiences while mentioning the protection of the foods, creating a better-quality air, air-conditioning solutions, cooling technologies, etc. It was stated that air-conditioning sector, a still-developing sector, has earned 30 million dollars of investment between 2016-2020. Also, in the seminar, it was stated that due to COVID-19 pandemic, increasing of quality of the air has become priority, and the integration of the disinfection solutions into ventilation systems is on the surface. Stating the importance of the integration method of ultraviolet-c rays with a well-thought plan for getting rid of the viruses also stated that methods without a well-thought plan might be questionable.

In the seminar, which mentioned recent developments related to the ventilation of the places where people are frequently in, such as housing, shopping malls, passenger vehicles, the importance of heating, cooling and ventilation in the construction sector and manufacturing production industry, where the air conditioning sector is heavily involved, was emphasized.

It was informed that global process air conditioning and cooling systems will have an annual growth rate of 8.55% in 2024 with a market size of us $ 23.55 billion. Ahmet Gökşin stated that many industries, from paper industry to steel production, from automotive to food sector and data centres, use air conditioning and cooling systems in their production processes, and stated that the sector in the world and in our country is in a continuous growth by providing information about the added value. Ventilation, installation, cooling, insulation companies in the world Sunday shares statistically explained. Ahmet Gökşin, who introduced the sectoral associations in which he played an active role to our participants, explained the importance they give to the university-industry cooperation associations, especially in ISKAV.

Gökşin highlighted the importance of trained personnel in the sector, while mentioning that the air conditioning sector can be an opportunity for students. In the seminar, it was stated that it is important for graduates who want to work in the air conditioning sector to evaluate abroad options, and it was emphasized that foreign language competence maintains its importance in the sector. Ahmet Gökşin, who answered the questions of the participants at the seminar, where Lecturer Berrak Köten, Lecturer Barış Safran and Lecturer Burak Öçlü were the moderators, increased the awareness of our students by sharing his extensive experience in the air conditioning sector. 

The Department of Entrepreneurship conducted the "Artificial Intelligence" course in the curriculum open to candidates and students within the scope of selection and promotion days. In the introductory lecture given by Res. Assist. Elanur Türküz; opinions were given on topics such as artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship and knowledge management.

The fourth guest of the "Interviews with Faculty Members" series organized by the Department of Architecture will be Assist. Prof. H. Nisa Semiz. Prof. Dr. Ayhan Usta will be the moderator of the conversation, which will be held on Monday, August 10, 2020, at 21:00 on @ikumimarlikbolumu Instagram account.

The fifth guest of the "Interviews with Faculty Members" series organized by the Department of Architecture will be our Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Prof. Dr. Neslihan Dostoğlu. IKU Vocational School will organize a webinar titled “Social Entrepreneurship and Motivation” to inform students about social entrepreneurship. The event in which Social Entrepreneur, Professional Mountaineer, Writer and Photographer Nasuh Mahruki will be a speaker will be held on Wednesday, August 12 at 21:00 on Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application.

After graduating from Marmara University Preschool Education Department in 2000, I took my first step into my professional life as a teacher. After working with children for years (I can say it is one of the most enjoyable times in my life), I took up different managerial positions. At the same time, I completed my master's degree in Yeditepe University Education Management and Supervision Department in 2007 with certificate of honor. I still continue my doctorate education.
