Istanbul Kültür University Dean of Students Office Kültür Point organized a “New Year’s Eve Party” on Friday, December 20, 2024, at B1 InnSide at the Ataköy building, Bakırköy Campus.

At the event organized with contributions from the Architecture Club, the Interior Architecture and Design Club, Orchestra IKU, and Kültür DJ Academy, students enjoyed the New Year’s Eve festivities with concerts and DJ performances.

Assist. Prof. Meryem Demir Güdül, from Istanbul Kültür University Faculty of Education, Department of Educational Sciences, has achieved great success with their research project titled “Eco-Anxiety and Psychological Flexibility: An ACT Framework for Climate Distress.”

The project was awarded a Research Development Grant by the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science. We congratulate our professor on this remarkable achievement and hope that the project will make valuable contributions to both academia and society.

Istanbul Kültür University Student Clubs provided students with an unforgettable night with the “Winter Fest” New Year’s Eve event held at Dorock XL Kadıköy on Tuesday, December 24. The event, which saw intense participation, was full of enthusiastic moments.

Students had a great time with DJ performances, live concerts, and dance shows at the night organised with contributions from the IKU Dance Club, IKU Travel Club, IKU Music Club, Orchestra IKU and Kültür DJ Academy.

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema academician Assist. Prof. Gizem Şimşek Kaya’s article titled “Reflections of Folk Beliefs and Memorates in Turkish Horror Cinema: The Example of Zebun Movie”, in which she provides a detailed analysis of Zebun, the second most watched Turkish horror movie of 2022, has been published in the 7th volume, 3rd issue of the international refereed Folklore Academy Journal.

Assist. Prof. Gizem Şimşek Kaya’s article titled “An Example in the Context of the Reflection of the Torment of the Grave Belief: Demolished: Lost Village Movie” which focuses on the movie Demolished: Lost Village, one of the most successful products of Turkish horror cinema in illustrating the torment of the grave, was included as a chapter in the book “International Researches in Cinema I,” edited by Assoc. Prof. Selçuk Ulutaş.

Assist. Prof. Gizem Şimşek Kaya’s article titled “An Analysis of the Subtexts of TRT Produced Alien Zekiye Series through Critical Theory,” which is the first written article about the TRT series Alien Zekiye, broadcast in 1988 and one of the first Turkish fantasy series, was included as a chapter in the book titled “Current Communication Research from Critical Media Studies to Health Communication,” edited by Assoc. Prof. Banu Küçüksaraç.

In cooperation with the Department of Basic Education, the University at School Club, and the Child Studies Culture Club, a panel talk titled “100 Languages of Creativity” was organized to provide pre-school teacher candidates with the competencies to design and implement creative activities. The event, where Prof. Dr. Belma Tuğrul from Istanbul Aydın University was the speaker, was held on Friday, December 13, at 10:00 AM, at the Küçükçekmece Campus Conference Hall.

On Tuesday, January 7, senior students of the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema presented their graduation projects, which they had prepared within the scope of the "STV0001 Graduation Project I" course.

The jury, consisting of Head of the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema Assoc. Prof. Perihan Taş Öz, Vice Head of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema Assoc. Prof. Bilgehan Ece Şakrak, Assoc. Prof. Remziye Köse Özelçi, and Assist. Prof. Ayşe Duygu Atasoy Aktaş, evaluated the projects produced in three different categories: thesis, feature film script, and short film.

The "100 Expressions of Creativity" exhibition was opened on Friday, December 13, at 12:30, in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education, the University at School Club and the Child Studies Culture Club. The exhibition, located in the Küçükçekmece campus foyer area, featured works prepared by the 2nd and 3rd grade students of the Department of Basic Education.

The IKU Underwater Club, the Trekking and Camping Club, and the Recycling and Zero Waste Club will organize a trekking event in memory of our professor Namık Kemal Köse, who passed away last year. The event, to be held on January 11-12, 2025, will include trekking along the Korsan Bay and Güneşkaya trails in Kırklareli - Kıyıköy.

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Technology Transfer Office (TTO) will host an online training and experience-sharing event focused on R&D projects in the field of social sciences.

At the event, which will be held online on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, between 14:30 and 16:30, Assoc. Prof. Önder Küçükural from the Department of Civilization Studies at the Ibn Haldun University Alliance of Civilizations Institute will share their insights and experiences.

The aim of the event is to share knowledge and inspire participants on how to prepare R&D projects in the field of social sciences. By sharing project writing processes, useful application examples, and experiences, the event seeks to contribute to participants from both academic and professional circles.
