The Protocol between Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) and OXS Informatics Limited Company was signed by Prof. Dr. Hanife Öztürk Akkartal, our Rector, and Can Azizoğlu, CEO of OXS Informatics Limited Company, on Thursday, May 12, 2022.  Within the scope of the protocol, a metaverse digital application development competition called METABANG LOCAL will be organized on https://decentraland.org/ in hackathon format and the successful team will be rewarded in order to encourage the participants.

The team coming in the first place will be awarded 5 Cumhuriyet Gold Coins by IKU and $2500 (US Dollars) by OXS BİLİŞİM.

Apart from METABANG LOCAL, the first competition organized under the newly signed protocol, the METABANG series will be completed with other protocols to be signed in the future. With The Series, METABANG PRO competitions where teams from different universities across Turkey will compete, hosted by Istanbul Kültür University in 2023, and in 2024 METABANG GLOBAL competitions where teams from world-class universities will compete are planned to be held.  

“Meeting” group painting exhibition which was held with the collaboration of Istanbul Kültür University (İKÜ) Fine Arts Application and Research Center (GSUAM) and Greyart has met with art enthusiasts in İKÜ Art Galery (İKÜSAG) on 11th of May Wednesday at 15.00. At the exhibition, which was initiated after the speeches of our Rector Prof. Dr. Hanife Öztürk Akkartal and Curator Mustafa Albayrak, takes part the works of the six outstanding artists of Turkish contemporary painting art such as Altan Çelem, Bahri Genç, Ekrem Kahraman, Gülten İmamoğlu, Mahir Güven ve Mustafa Albayrak. The exhibition is open to visits until July 1st.

Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA) supported Design Factory Project carried out its first Evaluation Meeting on 12th of May 2022. Erhan Arslan from Turkish Enterprise and Business Confederation (TURKONFED), Yasin Ali Türkeri from Associated Documentary Filmmakers (BSB), Project Academic Coordinator Assist. Prof. Gabriela Oana Olaru, Project Coordinator Zelal Fahrioğlı and the Event Coordinator Sıla Pamuk participated in the meeting as partners and contributors of the project. In the meeting, in which presentation of the project was made for the members of Evaluation Meeting, advice and opinions from the agents of TURKONFED and BSB, the partners of the project, were considered by informing about the present, completed and continuing studies of the project.

IKU Sign Language Choir, consisting of Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) students, took the stage at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center on Tuesday, May 10 to raise money for individuals with spinal cord injury and to raise awareness about the issue. At the concert many singers’ songs were interpreted in sign language and all the proceeds from the event was donated to the Turkish Spinal Cord Paralysis Association.

Sign Language Instructor and Interpreter Gökben Keleş led the IKU Sign Language Choir, taking the stage at the concert organized by the Istanbul Kültür University Student Life, Career and Alumni Counseling Unit (Kültür Point) to raise Money for the Turkish Spinal Cord Paralysis Association (TOFD).

Organized in cooperation with Kültür Point and Kültür İstanbul, the first of the "When It's Dark" concert series was hosted in the backyard of İstanbul Kültür University Ataköy campus on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 20.00. Nearly 400 listeners attended the concert where The Away Days (Acoustic) band took the stage.

Istanbul Kültür University Men’s Rugby Team played the semi-finals in the "Men" branch of the Rugby UNILIG Finals Turkey Championship, organized by the Turkish University Sports Federation between 8-10 May. Our students, who faced off Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University BESYO team in the semi-finals of the tournament which was attended by 13 universities, completed the championship with being ranked the 4th in Turkey.

Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences 2021-2022 Academic Year Spring Semester Academic Committee was held on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the Basın Ekspres Campus Conference Hall, under the chairmanship of Dean V. Prof. Dr. Müge Çetiner.

After the committee, in which the academic activities of the 2021-2022 Academic Year Spring Semester were evaluated, a celebration was held with the faculty members who received their new titles.

Dr. Saber Delpasand Kabbazi from Karadeniz Technical University attended as a speaker at the conference titled "Molecular Biology and Genetic Approaches to Plants and Biotic Stress Factors" organized by the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. At the event, a comprehensive presentation was made about the current genetic approaches to counter biotic stresses in plants as well as, methods of gene transfer in plants.

Thanks to collaborations of IKU ArClub (Alumni Relations) and IKU Awareness Club, an event was held on Wednesday, May 11, within the scope of 10-16 May Disability Awareness Week. Disability researcher from Erişilebilir Her Şey platform Ilgın Aydınoğlu and Kemal Koçak who is lecturer and  specialist psychologist and our 2013 alumni from deparment of Psychology had attended as speakers. Event took about two and half hours. Aydınoğlu, who talks about disability from past to present, and differences of blind-disabled person, and vision differences, conveyed  models of disability; tragedy, medical, social and right based models. Res. Assist. Koçak had a conversation titled “Understanding Disability from a Psychological Perspective".  Our graduate who talked about his life story mentioned how he coinced with “Accesible IKU”, stages he passed when he became disabled with his professional experience and what kind of behaviors occur.

Faculty of Education Department of Basic Education students, donated the Montessori materials they prepared within the scope of the lesson led by Head of the Department of Basic Education Assoc. Prof. Gökçe Kurt to the four kindergarten classrooms and the newly established special education classroom of Avcılar Denizköşkler Primary School.

An "Alumni Panel" was held by the Program of Guidance and Psychological Counseling at the Basın Ekspres Campus Seminar Hall on Monday, May 9th. At the panel many graduates working in a variety of institutions talked about their post-graduation experiences. The graduates talked about being a psychological counselor in private schools, working with children, preparing for the KPSS exam and the job assignment processes, working in private companies as well as, studying in different graduate programs. The panel helped our students to be knowledgeable about different possible career options and paths in the field of psychological counseling and guidance.

A conversation titled “The Near Future of the Automotive Industry” was held by the Department of Economics on Wednesday, May 11,2022, at the Basın Ekspres Campus conference hall and, simultaneously via CATS online. Citroen Turkey Marketing Director Zeynep Durusu attended the event as a speaker, in which Assist. Prof. Merve Hamzaoğlu, Deputy Head of the Department of Economics was the moderator. In the conversation, the situation of the automotive industry in the world and in Turkey, the effects of the pandemic and the expectations for the future in the industry were discussed.

The Department of International Trade and Finance held an event titled "International Trade Seminar Series V: The Jobs of The Future" on Thursday, May 9, 2022. Participating as a speaker in the online seminar was the Dean of Doğuş University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Gonca Telli who informed our students about the future of different professions with the fourth industrial revolution, also known as, industry 4.0.  

The Department of International Trade and Finance held an event titled "International Trade Seminar Series IV: Germany's Immigration and Labor Market Integration Policies" on Thursday, April 28, 2022. Nurdan Bozkurt Çakır from Yıldız Technical University Political Science and International Relations PhD Program attended the online seminar as a speaker.

“MetaBang” event will be held with the collaboration of Head of the IKU Directorate of Information Systems and Technologies, Technology Transfer Office, Kültür Point and COINOX. The presentations of 4 different teams of the students at our university will be designed in two days and one night and will be carried through in Decentraland, the metaverse universe. The event will be hosted by Technology Transfer Office, placed in Ataköy Campus floor B1 on 16-17th of May, between 09.00-20.00.

This year’s theme of “Decision Support Systems Seminars” which are held annually by Industrial Engineering Club since 2008 will be “Metaverse and Web 3.0”. The event in which experts in their field will participate will take place in Önder Öztunalı Conference Room on 16th of May, Monday at 11.00-16.00.

Program of Tourism and Hotel Management will arrange training to show the theoretical information given throughout the year in practice. The training, which will be given by the Director of Four Seasons Bosphorus Training and Development, will be carried through in Beşiktaş, Four Seasons Bosphorus Hotel on 16th of May, Monday between 12.00-16.00.

The Department of Architecture will arrange “2021-2022 Academic Year Fall Semester Most Successful Architectural Projects Award Ceremony” in which the most successful projects made as part of “Architectural Design” class in 2021-2022 Academic Year Fall Semester will be rewarded. The event, in which projects of students from 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade will be evaluated accordingly and the owners of the most successful projects will be awarded, will take place on 16th of May, Monday at 12.30 in 2nd floor C corridor.

Istanbul Kültür University will arrange a panel by Business Development, Industrial and Sectoral Relations Unit, titled “Aware Family Strong Society” as part of “International Day of Families” to inform the participants.” The event in which experts in their field will participate will be held in Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center on 16th of May, Monday between 13.00-16.00.

The Economy Club will organize an event titled "Financial Literacy Training for Young People Who Manage Their Budget" in order to inform the Club members about financial literacy and to help them manage their budgets. The event in which the speaker will be Member of Board of FODER Işıl Bük will be held in Basın Ekspres Campus Conference Room on 16th of May at 13.00.

A seminar titled "Urban Profit" will be held as part of the "Contemporary Concepts in Architecture" course given at Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Department of Architecture. Urban scientist, researcher, and author Prof. Dr. Ruşen Keleş will attend the online seminar as a speaker which will be held on Microsoft Teams on Monday, May 16 at 17.00.

Program of Tourism and Hotel Management will organize a picnic in Belgrad Forest on 17th of May, Tuesday between 11.00-17.00 in order to relieve the students from the stress of the semester.

A music festival by IKU Music Club will be held in the backyard of Ataköy Campus on 17-18th of May between 13.00-22.00 with also the participation of music clubs of other universities as a tribute to both “May 19 the Commemoration of Atatürk Youth and Sports Day” and the 25th year of the establishment of our university.

Economy Club will arrange a conference entitled as “Global Market and the Future of Cryptocurrency” in order to inform the students about globalising world economy, global market, cryptocurrency and the future of cryptocurrency. The event, whose speakers will be the economist Murat Sağman and Bitexen Technology Research Specialist Agah Selim Sesli, will be held via ZOOM platform on 17th of May, Tuesday at 13.00.

The "Nazım Hikmet Poetry Audition" will be organized by the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, where Nazım Hikmet's poetry world, which has moved from the national to the universal, will be discussed. The event, in which our Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Assist. Prof. Kayhan Şahan is the speaker, will be held on Tuesday, May 17, at 16.00 Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall.

In cooperation with the English Literature Club and the Department of English Language and Literature, the event “Chatting with Buket Aygün” will be held in order to support the students’ career planning processes. The event, in which Assist. Prof. Buket Aygün from Istanbul University will make her speech "When the hurlyburly’s done, when the Doctor meets the Bard," will be held on Wednesday, May 18, at 15.00, via Microsoft Teams.

The Architecture Club will hold a conference titled “Metaverse/ Architecture and Design” in which how architects can exist in the metaverse plane and what they can do will be spoken. The event, in which Architects Beyza Mert and Ibrahim Emre Erkek are the speakers, will be held on Wednesday, May 18, at 15.00, at Seminar Hall 2 (First floor, D Corridor) in Ataköy campus.

The play "The Kitchen", for which our IKU Theater Club member students have been preparing throughout semester, will be staged at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center on Wednesday, May 18, between 19.00 and 21.00.

"Falling in Love with What You Can't Touch: An Interview with Aslı Aktümen on Her Film" will be organized by the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema in order to enable students to benefit from other disciplines in film analysis. The event, in which Specialist Doctor Aslı Aktümen is the speaker, with moderatorship of the Co-Head of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema Assist. Prof. Bilgehan Ece Şakrak, will be held on Wednesday, May 18, between the hours of 19.00-20.00, via Cats.

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics will organize a panel titled "Current Look to Products Nutritional Supplements" within the scope of the "BES6008" course to discuss the current approach to nutritional supplement products.  The event, in which Dieticians Beste Alimert Altunörs, Gökhan Çelik and Beril Koparal Ergün are the speakers, will be held on Friday, May 20, between the hours of 10.00-13.00, at Önder Öztunalı Conference Room.

"National Development Congress" will be held in cooperation with the Business, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Club and Turkey's Development Community (TİİBÖT) in order to support the career planning processes of students. Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center will host the event, which will be held with the participation of experts in their field, on Friday, May 20, between the hours of 13.00 – 19.00.

Though many of the images are of the German and Austro-Hungarian armies on the Westfront and Ostfront, several additional chapters also explore the fighting across other, lesser-known fronts, including the Südwest Front and in Sinai, Palestine, and Mesopotamia.

This book is an excellent pictorial guide that would be of benefit to anyone seeking to gain a better understanding of what life was like from the perspective of the German, Austro-Hungarian, and Ottoman armies, and their peoples during the fourth year of the First World War.
