The IKU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Burcu Yavuz Tiftikçigil attended the "Global Sustainable Development Congress" held in Thailand between 10-13 June 2024, on the behalf of IKU.

The congress hosted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand was attended by representatives from higher education, government, business and civil society for a sustainable future. The congress, in which sustainable development were discussed in great depth, brought together three thousand Global thinking leaders.

The congress challenges conventional thinking about what higher education, governments, business and society should do to help society achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and is in essence a call to action for global universities and businesses to bring together education, research, research and development activities. The results of THE Impact Ranking 2024 were also announced at the congress.

A notable conversation protocol was signed between Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) and the Turkish Knitwear Industrialists Association (TRİSAD) with the aim of training the textile experts of the future.

The protocol signing ceremony, attended by Zeytinburnu District Governor Adem Uslu, TRİSAD Chairperson of the Board of Directors Mustafa Balkuv, TRİSAD Board members and TRİSAD Education Officer Murat Tataoğlu, was held on Thursday, June 6, at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the IKU Rector Prof. Dr. Fadime Üney Yüksektepe remarked on the opportunities the collaboration will provide to students and highlighted IKU’s innovative approach to education.

TRİSAD Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Mustafa Balkuv, talked about the benefits of the association to the sector and education. TRİSAD Textile Technology Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School Principal Nesrin Akgün elaborated on the contributions of the collaboration to vocational education.

This cooperation protocol aims to make significant contributions to the development of education in the textile industry in Türkiye.

Our Rector Fadime Üney Yüksektepe, our Advisor to the Board of Trustees Özkan Gül and our Head of the Department of Construction Affairs Mehmet Yücesan visited Küçükçekmece Mayor Kemal Çebi in his office on Tuesday, June 11.

Our Department of Civil Engineering academician Prof. Dr. Nihal Sarıer's second patent, which is the output of the "TÜBİTAK 1001 Project" numbered 213M281 conducted by her, was registered and published.

The international patent titled “WEBS WITH COAXIAL NANOFIBER STRUCTURE, A TEXTILE PRODUCT CONTAINING THESE WEBS AND A PREPARATION METHOD THEREOF (KOAKSİYEL NANOLİF YAPILI AĞLAR, BU AĞLARI İÇEREN BİR TEKSTİL ÜRÜNÜ VE HAZIRLANMA YÖNTEMİ)” of which Istanbul Kültür University is the patent owner and Prof. Dr. Nihal Sarıer (IKU) and Prof. Dr. Emel Önder Karaoğlu (ITU) are the inventors, was registered and published on May 15, 2024, with the number UK_Patent GB2597373.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Youth and Sports Director İlker Öztürk, Deputy Director Gökmen Öztürk and Sports Facilities Manager Ozan Karakiraz visited Istanbul Kültür University. Our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Gülce Öğrüç Ildız, our Secretary General Ender Rıza Ekici and our Young Office Coordinator Hülya Aydın accompanied the IBB officials who visited the Ataköy building of Bakırköy campus on Wednesday, June 12.

Türkiye became one of the five countries with a superconducting electron accelerator with the Turkish Accelerator and Radiation Laboratory (TARLA). We congratulate our Head of Vocational School Alternative Energy Resources Program Assist. Prof. Makbule Tamkaş, who works as an expert researcher at the Turkish Accelerator and Radiation Laboratory (TARLA), which is the first and only one in our country, and wish them continued success.

The Turkish Accelerator and Radiation Laboratory (TARLA) is a multi-purpose and multi-disciplinary research infrastructure to foster scientific and technical research on accelerator science, providing "state-of-the-art" capabilities to researchers and industry.

With the participation of academicians at universities conducting valuable research and studies in different fields on the basis of youth with the aim of contributing to the development of youth policies based on research and needs analysis in Türkiye with the cooperation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports by the Game and Learning Association and creating the Turkish Youth Researchers Network, the "Youth Policies Meeting on Research" was held on Friday, June 7, 2024 between 10.00-16.00 at the Istanbul Bakırköy International Youth Center.

At the meeting attended by Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Dr. Enes Eminoğlu, General Director of Youth Services Enes Efendioğlu, relevant department heads from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and invited academics, Istanbul Kültür University Student Life, Career and Alumni Advisory Unit (Kültür Point) President Assist. Prof. Neslihan Fatma Er represented our university.

At the meeting held on the agenda of "Youth Needs and Sharing Research-Based Determinations", the participants conveyed the youth problems, needs and potentials they observed and researched, specifically for youth and within the scope of their fields of expertise, and stated the situations they considered important within the scope of their experiences. On the "Suggestions on Youth Policies" agenda, participants' suggestions were taken in order to contribute to the youth policy development process of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. During this process, suggestions for collaborations that could be developed between the ministry and academics and for youth research in Türkiye were listened to.

A conference titled "Conference of Childhood, Education & Society (ConferenceCES)" will be held in cooperation with IKU Faculty of Education and Journal of Childhood, Education & Society (JCES). The event, where Prof. Dr. Mathias Urban (Dublin City University), Prof. Dr. Hasina Banu Ebrahim (University of South Africa) and Prof. Dr. Zsuzsa Millei (Tampere University) will be speakers, will be held at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center between 27-29 June (08.00-18.00).
