Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Head of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver published a message regarding the IKU agenda, which has changed with the New Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

My Dear Kültür Family,

First of all, it was very meaningful for me to be together with my colleagues, student council, club presidents and representatives at the opening ceremony of the new academic year held on Wednesday, 7 October 2020. Our opening ceremony, which we held by keeping our auditorium capacity limited, gave us all hope for the future. On this occasion, I wish the 2020-2021 academic year to continue with health, peace, and success for our whole family.

My Dear Kültür Family,

One of the most important developments of the fall semester in which we will continue with distance education is the activating our digital education solution CATS Version 3. I believe that CATS V3, which is designed with an education and communication friendly infrastructure, especially the meeting feature that allows live lessons, will also make a difference in student satisfaction. CATS V3, whose in-house launch and training was completed last week, reached remarkable statistics with more than two thousand courses and nearly 10 thousand individual users in one day. Our digital education solution will undertake a very important mission not only in the fall semester, but also in the future of our university. At this point, I would like to contribute to the development of CATS V3 with the constructive feedback of CATS V3 from all members of Kültür

Another study for the sustainability of education in the 2020-2021 academic year was our hybrid lecture halls opened at our Ataköy Campus. It is a great pleasure to be able to offer our students an efficient digital learning environment, including class participation, with our hybrid lecture halls that offer our academic staff lessons in classroom climate with the camera and smart board applications installed in the lecture hall. Our hybrid classroom technologies will be the biggest assistant of our students and academicians together with CATS V3 in the fall semester with its  equipment that will ensure learning efficiency. I hope that our hybrid classes, which our Foreign Languages Department has started to use for our preparatory students, will be productive for all our university and students.

We faced different realities in this period of time when we understood more clearly that digitalization is not a result but a process. One of them is digital inequality. The cost created by the technologies required for education is forcing the conditions of many families and educators across the nation. At this point, we will start a solidarity initiative against digital inequality as the Kültür family with the cooperation of İKÜMED and KÜMED. A humble contribution we will make means a lot for this project. We need solidarity for the future of our children and youth in order to repair the social dilemmas created by digital inequality without further growth. I sincerely believe that every member of the Kültür family will support our campaign with their sincere contributions, regardless of quantity. You can get information about the contribution process to our solidarity project to be carried out under the coordination of İKÜMED and KÜMED, which we set out with the message "We are stronger together", from the İKÜMED portal on our website. It is important that we can develop the initiative we started as Kültür family together. Istanbul Kultur University Hybrid Education Model test broadcast was held by our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Nihal Sarıer on Tuesday, October 13.

The Department of Cartoon and Animation held an Orientation Program on Monday, October 12 at 16:00 on IKU CATS Collaborate.

Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design held an opening course for 1st grade students on Thursday, October 15, 2020. Architect Görkem Volkan attended the event organized online over CATS as a speaker.

One of our academicians from the Department of Communication and Design Assist. Prof. Nagihan Çakar Bikiç presented her report titled “Mockumentary as a Popularizing Genre: An Analysis on the Reality Perception Created by Fictional Documentary” at the meeting titled "ITICAM International Trends and Issues in Communıcatıons Medıa Conferance" held in Cyprus between 2-4 September 2020.

Lecturer Berrak Köten, Head of the Second Education Program in Banking and Insurance made her presentation titled “Performance Analysis of Listed Real Estate Companies: A Practice in Turkey and Mena Region” at the 19th International Conference of MEEA - International Trade and Sustainable Development in MENA Region's session called Financial Markets, Institutions and Integration.

One of the academic staff of İKÜ Architecture Department Res. Assist. A. Hilal Iavarone presented her academic study titled "Climate Change Action Plan Discourses of Coastal Cities: The Case of Istanbul and Kocaeli in the Focus of Sea Level Rise" in full text at the II. International Disaster and Resilience Congress held between 13-15 October.

The article titled "The Effects of Time and Space in the Context of Memory Studies on the Narrative Structure of Turkish Horror Cinema" by Assit. Prof. Nagihan Çakar Bikiç, an academic from the Department of Communication and Design, was published in the Academic Journal of Selçuk University Faculty of Communication.

The Department of Architecture will organize a "Be a Part Workshop" for 1st grade students in order to conduct theoretical discussions and to produce architectural works on the subject to be given. The workshop will be held by one of our academicians, Assist. Prof. Esin Hasgül, and by our academic staff, research assistant E. Merve Aksoy Oral and research assistant Dilara Gür, on Saturday, October 17 between 09.00-18.00 on the CATS platform.

A training will be organized by Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Business Development, Industrial and Sectoral Relations Unit (IGESIB) to inform and document employees, managers and employers during the pandemic period. The COVID-19 trainings, whose filming has been completed, will be given over the Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application between October 19-21 (09.00-13.00).

In cooperation with the Effective Communication Club, New Media and Communication Department and the Department of Communication Arts, "Correspondence and Homework Language Training" will be organized in order to raise awareness of students in this field due to the increase in correspondence and project-like assignments due to online education. The training, which will be given by Mücella Ezgin, Deputy Head of the Kültür Point Unit, will be held on Monday, October 19 at 17.00 via CATS.

The Department of Architecture will organize a webinar titled “Digital Production of Architecture” to discuss current issues and studies in architecture. Dr. Orkan Zeynel Güzelci(Postdoctoral Researcher at Porto University), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sema Alaçam (İTÜ) and Dr. Asena Kumsal Şen(Maltepe University) will be a speaker in the event. The event which is moderated by Assist. Prof. Mehmet Emre Arslan, will be held on Wednesday, October 21 at 19:00 on Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application.

2020-2021 Academic Year Faculty of Arts and Sciences Opening Course will be held on Thursday, October 22 at 13:00 over CATS with Our Head of Psychology Department Prof. Dr. Önder Kavakçı's speech titled "On Denial".

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Student Life, Career and Graduate Counseling Unit (Culture Point) will organize the "Philosophy of Mathematics and Thought Workshop" in order to discuss the ways of reaching the result by thinking the unthinkable without questioning. The training to be given by the IT & Management Consultant Numan Aydınoğlu will be held on Friday, October 23 between 16.00-18.00 over CATS.

IKU Genç TEMA Club will organize an e-interview titled “Minimalist Life and Zero Waste” in order to exchange ideas about the topics "How can we reduce our unnecessary consumption in order to leave a livable world?", "What substances can we save?" and"How can we index our lives to a minimalist life?". The event, that City Planner Ceren Özcan will be a speaker, will be held on Friday, October 23 at 20:00 on @ikugenctemaaa Instagram account.

For the shortest time, I would probably describe myself as a researcher and a science communicator. I was born in Istanbul Kadıköy. I chose Istanbul University Astronomy and Space Sciences Department for my undergraduate education. It was one of the few choices I made. I graduated in 2001 as the top of the department. After completing my master's degree in Istanbul University Institute of Science, Astronomy and Space Sciences Program, I started my doctorate in the same program in 2003. During my PhD, I conducted observational studies to examine the properties of metallic stars, one of the strange stars that does not fall into any class. In 2007, I worked as a visiting researcher at The Citadel Military College Physics Department in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. When I came back from here, I completed my doctorate in 2009. I held and participated in many meetings with more than 60 national and international publications. In addition to my scientific research and administrative duties, I continue to carry out activities, TÜBİTAK and Horizon science-society projects to spread science in our country and in the world using astronomy. So far I have given more than 150 lectures on popular astronomy topics. Between the years 2012-2017 the International Astronomical Union (IAU) Public Outreach Committee I served as Representative in Turkey. Between 2016-2018, I was the General Secretary of the Turkish Astronomy Association and I am still a member of this committee. Since 2006, we have been providing trainings to teachers to enrich astronomy in education under the name of AstroBilgi. For this reason, I was elected as the President of the International Astronomical Union National Astronomical Education Committee in 2020. On the other hand, I am married and I have a daughter who goes to kindergarten.
