The "5th ICMEK International Congress on Interior Architecture Education" was held online on June 16-17, 2022, in cooperation with the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design of Istanbul Kültür University and the Department of Interior Architecture of Karadeniz Technical University. At the congress, which was held with the theme of "Rethinking", the current situation of Interior Architecture education was brought up for discussion, and new dynamics and projections for the future were shared. Researchers contributed to congress with their works about theory-practice-history, teacher-student dynamics, undergraduate-graduate, formality-informality, educational program-process, face-to-face-online, physical infrastructure-technological infrastructure, interdisciplinary interaction-continuous vocational education, digitalization, ethics and many more. Leading representatives of the international academic field in interior architecture took part in the scientific committee of the congress, which was co-chaired by Prof. Dr. Gülay Usta and Prof. Dr. Tülay Zorlu. In the congress, which was held online for two days, important guest speakers who contributed to interior architecture education at international level took place.
On the first day of the congress, Rene Pier “ECIA Charter of Interior Architectural Training 2020” and Prof. Dr. Henry Sanoff made their presentation titled “Confronting Traditional Thinking about School Environments”. On the second day of the congress, Prof. Graeme Brooker “50-Words for Reuse” and Prof. Dr. Katelijin Quartier made their presentation titled “Professionalization of the discipline of interior architecture: intertwining research and education”. |
