Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) 2024-2025 Academic Year was opened with the participation of our Board of Trustees Chairperson Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, Istanbul Kültür Educational Institutions (IKEK) Board of Directors Chairperson & IKU Board of Trustees Vice Chairperson Ful Akıngüç Över, our Rector Prof.Dr. Fadime Üney Yüksektepe, our Vice Rector Prof.Dr. Gülce Öğrüç Ildız, our Secretary General Ender Rıza Ekici, academic-administrative staff and students at a ceremony held at Akıngünç Auditorium and Art Center on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 10:00.

The ceremony, to which Bakırköy Mayor Assoc. Prof. Ayşegül Özdemir Ovalıoğlu was invited, began with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem.

Thirdly, our Dean of Students Office, which will work to transform university education into a life experience, started its activities as of September. I kindly request that all our academic and administrative staff work in coordination and cooperation with our Dean of Students Office, and I wish success to our Dean of Students Assoc. Prof. Gamze Alptekin.

Finally, our corporate mobile application named PUMA was launched with the 2024-2025 academic year. Thanks to this application, which is a first in Türkiye, our students will be able to follow their announcements and achievements regarding academic processes while also recording and documenting their non-educational activities. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the implementation of our application, which aims to provide students with 21st century competencies through gamification techniques, especially our Secretary General Ender Rıza Ekici and our Design Factory Manager Ahmet Gökhan Uluçay.

The Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Dean of Students’ Office organized an “Orientation Program” from September 18-20, at the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus, for the newly enrolled students joining the IKU family in the 2024-2025 Academic Year. The program aimed to offer a warm welcome to the students and introduce them our university and its staff, which will become a part of their lives throughout their higher education journey, and to make their first days at the university both inspiring and guiding.

On Wednesday, September 18, at the Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Centre, our Rector Prof. Dr. Fadime Üney Yüksektepe gave the opening speech for the “Orientation Program” with her following statement:

“Dear students, welcome to our university. University education, at both associate and undergraduate levels, is a horizon tour for an individual’s life. In the time leading up to your graduation, you will gain not only a profession but also life experience. Our university, founded by the Kültür College Foundation, located in Istanbul, the cultural capital of Türkiye, will open the doors for its students to not only develop as individuals but also to socialize and become global citizens. However, the greatest responsibility in seizing these opportunities falls upon you. The biggest difference between university and the education levels you have experienced so far is actually you. As of today, each of you is an individual who is either 18 years old or approaching 18 day by day, and is of legal age or about to be so. Therefore, throughout all processes that will ensure the continuity of your student life at university, you will experience having a say and taking responsibility. Today’s orientation program was designed to provide you with the necessary information for your student life withing the university. Our respective departments will share with you all the processes related to your rights and freedoms in the context of social, cultural, official, national and international, technological, and personal data aspects, which are all part of student life and its flow. Certainly, it may not be easy to quickly grasp everything in such a vast ecosystem. In this case, feel free to use your freedom to ask questions, one of your fundamental rights. Whenever you want to learn more in-depth about any topic, your academic advisors, as well as our academic and administrative units, will be ready to support you. I wish that your university education, which marks the beginning of your journey to becoming an individual, socializing, and becoming a global citizen, will be successful, happy, and healthy, and I congratulate you all.”

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Fadime Üney Yüksektepe and our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Gülce Öğrüç Ildız visited Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Rector Prof.Dr.Hasan Mandal in his office. Our Rector and Vice Rector congratulated Prof. Dr. Mandal, who was appointed as rector as of August 16, and exchanged ideas about our ERA Chair project.

The IKU PUMA mobile application, developed by the Department of Information Systems and Technologies at Istanbul Kültür University (IKU), has been launched.

Prof. Dr. Sevim Akyüz, one of our faculty members from the Department of Physics, was included in the "2% scientists" list published by Elsevier in September 2024. We congratulate our professor and wish her continued success.

IKU IEEE Club Astra Team realized successful shooting and rescue at TEKNOFEST 2024. We congratulate Team Advisor Assist. Prof. Okay Işık from our Department of Industrial Engineering and our students and wish them continued success.

Istanbul Kültür University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation lecturer Res. Assist. Specialised Physiotherapist Kübra Önerge's project submitted to TÜBİTAK BİDEB 2214-A Overseas Postdoctoral Research Scholarship Program was entitled to be supported. Res. Assist. Önerge will work with a research team working on motor function and development in infants and children at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute in Melbourne, Australia for 6 months. Within the scope of the research, especially the movement and neural activities of high-risk infants and children with cerebral palsy will be examined with video-based analysis methods and 3D motion capture systems. The project is directly related to our academic's studies on the relationship between babies' brain activities and motor skills, called "General Movements," which she conducted as part of her doctoral thesis, and will contribute greatly to her professional development and gaining an international researcher identity during the research period.

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Mountaineering Club Advisor & Head of Department of Entrepreneurship Assist. Prof. Artür Yetvart Mumcu reached the summit of Mount Ararat, the highest point of Türkiye and Europe (5,137 meters), on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 08.30 am.

Within the scope of this event, the logo of IKU Mountaineering Club was carried to the summit. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the successful summit climbing of 13 athletes with the organization of Istanbul Nature Sports Club.

IKU Mountaineering Club continues to contribute to the development of Turkish mountaineering with such activities. We wish all our climbers many more successful summits.

Dr. Batu Varlık, a lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Istanbul Kültür University, participated as a speaker in a live broadcast themed “Electric Vehicles and Future Transportation Technologies” on EMO TV, the YouTube channel of the Chamber of Electrical Engineers (EMO), on Wednesday, September 18.

The Department of International Trade and Finance will organize an orientation program for newly enrolled students for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. The event, in which Prof. Dr. Martin Kornmeier from DHBW Mannheim University will be the speaker, will be held on Monday, September 23rd, between 10.30-14.00 at the conference hall of Küçükçekmece campus.

The Department of Industrial Engineering will organize an orientation program for students who are newly enrolled in the department for the 2024-2025 Academic Year on Monday, September 23rd, at 11:00 am in classroom Z-A-1 in the Ataköy building of Bakırköy campus.

The opening lecture of the 2024-2025 Academic Year of the Faculty of Science and Letters will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 11:00 am in Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall with the presentation titled “Psychology and Social Reflections of Fear of Crime” by Assoc. Prof. Burcu Türk, one of our faculty members of the Department of Psychology.

The Career Club will hold a "Career Club Introduction Launch" on Monday, September 23, at 13.00 at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus to provide new students with information about the club and introduce its activities for the year.

An orientation program will be organised by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering for all students, especially those who are newly enrolled in the department in the 2024-2025 academic year, on Monday, September 23, at 13.00 in the classroom 3B0406 in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus.

The event, where Master Architect Suat Batuhan Esirger from Istanbul Bilgi University will be the speaker, will be hosted by Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus on Monday, September 23, between 15.00-17.00.

The Department of Psychology will organise an orientation program for students who are newly enrolled in the department in the 2024-2025 Academic Year. The event, where our Head of the Department of Psychology Assoc. Prof. Melis Seray Özden Yıldırım will be the speaker, will be held on Tuesday, September 24, at 13.00 at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus.

Within the scope of the collaboration between Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) and Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, and in partnership with Gazi University, Chitkara University of India, and Imam Ja'afar Al-Sadiq University of Iraq, a conference titled "3rd International Conference on Engineering and Science to Achive" will be held. The conference, where the concept of “Sustainability” will be discussed, will be held on September 25-26 between 09.00 and 18.00 at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center.

The Department of International Relations will organise an orientation program for the newly enrolled students for the 2024-2025 Academic Year on Wednesday, September 25, at 10.30 am in the conference hall of the Küçükçekmece campus.

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering will organize an orientation program in English for all students, especially those who are newly enrolled in the department for the 2024-2025 academic year, on Wednesday, September 25, at 15.00 in classroom 2B1113 in the Ataköy building of Bakırköy campus.

In cooperation with the English Literature Society and the Gender Equality Club, “Creative Writing Workshop” will be organized with the participation of author, translator, and poet Michael Kerins on Wednesday, September 25 at 14.00 at the 1st floor multipurpose hall in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus.
