"Digital Education Orientation Program", which is one of the General University Orientation Programs of the 2023-2024 Academic Year and where all newly registered students are introduced to all the digital environments and opportunities they will use throughout their academic lives at our university and are given training on their use, Student Life Career and Alumni Advisory Unit (Kültür Point) was held on Monday, September 18, 2023, between 14.00-16.00 at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center.

In the program attended by nearly 500 new students, "SAP ORION Student Applications Training" by Head of the Department of Corporate Information Management Assist. Prof. Levent Çuhacı, "Department of Information Systems and Technologies Services" introduction by Department of Information Systems and Technologies Software Specialist Fettah Kurtuluş and "CATS Usage Training" was carried out by Head of Student Life, Career and Alumni Advisory Unit Assist. Prof. Neslihan Fatma Er.

IKUMED Board of Directors visited Prof. Dr. Fadime Üney Yüksektepe in her office, who was appointed as the Rector of Istanbul Kültür University by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Our students of the Faculty of Education, Program of Psychological Counselling and Guidance, Erdinç Göktuğ Basar, Merve Bilgin, Serra Nur Genç, Yiğit Yalçın and Yunus Emre Korkusuz successfully presented their study titled "A Research on the Effect of Life Satisfaction and State Anxiety on Vocational Outcome Expectation as a Predictor of High School Students" as an oral presentation, which they prepared under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Erkan Işık and Assist. Prof. Hatice Leblebici, at the "18th National PDR Students Congress" hosted by TED University between 15-17 September.

The experimental short film titled "Our Hell in Our Plastic World", written and directed by Emre Arslan, one of our students from the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema of the Faculty of Art and Design, was selected among hundreds of films in the "Short Film" category of the competition and made it to the finals at the Communicators of the Future event, organized by TRT between 29 September and 2 October 2023.

The film, which is about humanity dominating the world with its intelligence, ambition and insatiable selfishness and starting to destroy it, offers a perspective on the global problems of today's world through the language of experimental cinema. 

“Our Hell in Our Plastic World” was premiered at the "4th SineKültür Interuniversity Short Film Festival" organized by our Department of Radio, Television and Cinema in May 2023. In addition to Emre Arslan, the cast and technical team of the film included our students from Department of Radio, Television and Cinema Elif Bozduman, Hakan Karan and Arca Batuğ Sınmaz, as well as Mustafa Arıcan, one of our students from the Department of Communication Arts, and Zülal Sıla Erk, one of our students from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

In collaboration with Istanbul Kültür University Faculty of Architecture and Erasmus+ Internship Consortium and under the leadership of Piotr Karbalczyk (University of Ecology and Management in Warsaw), “Istanbul Summer School 2023” titled “Architectural Detail and the Search for Genius Loci in a Contemporary Sketch by Young Architects” will be held between 6-16 September 2023.

After the classes held at Istanbul Kültür University for the first two days, the students, accompanied by their facilitators, made sketches in Museum Gazhane, Istanbul Modern, Süleymaniye Mosque, Fikirtepe, Fişekhane, Üsküdar coast and Kuzguncuk. At the end of the summer school, students shared their works with faculty members of the Faculty of Architecture in a workshop environment.

Within the scope of the "Peer Mentorship" project carried out by Kültür Point, the students who will serve as volunteer mentors in the 2023-2024 Academic Year were given training by Kültür Point Unit Vice President Doğa Kurtyiğit. Details of the mentoring processes were explained in the training held via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 17.00. The training, attended by more than 120 volunteer peer mentors, ended after the questions were answered.

Book chapter authors are accepted for the book project titled "Gender Inequality in Türkiye: A Look from the Past to the Future", which will be edited by one of our academicians from the Department of International Trade and Finance, Assist. Prof. Nazlı Şahanoğulları.

The article titled "Investigation of the Effects of the Expected Istanbul Earthquake on the Istanbul Economy: A System Dynamics Model", co-authored by Deputy Head of Department of Industrial Engineering Assist. Prof. Duygun Fatih Demirel, was accepted to be published in the Journal of Engineering Sciences and Design.

The article titled "An Integrated Fuzzy MCDM Model for Hotel Website Evaluation", written by one of the faculty members of the Department of Industrial Engineering Res. Assist. Dilek Akburak Akbaş together with Mert Akbaş, was accepted to be published in the Journal of Engineering Sciences and Design.

IKU Design Factory will organize an event called "ANSTBANG" to say hello to the 2023-2024 Academic Year. The event, where Design Factory Project Coordinator Meltem Zengin will be the speaker, will be held on Friday, September 29, at 13.00, at the Design Factory in our Ataköy campus.
