Kuasar Team, one of the IKU IEEE Club teams, deserved to be a finalist in the TEKNOFEST'22 "Technology for the Benefit of Humanity" classification with the "K-Rod Smart Walking Stick" project, which aims to minimize the problems experienced by visually impaired individuals in their daily lives and to enable these individuals to return to their social lives, by passing all report stages.

We wish success to our team, which is also a TEKNOFEST'21 finalist, in the final process.

In cooperation with Istanbul Kültür University Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design and Karadeniz Technical University Department of Interior Architecture, the “5th ICMEK International Congress on Interior Architecture Education” was held online on June 16-17, 2022. At the congress, which was held with the theme of “Rethinking”, by opening the current state of Interior Architecture education for a discussion, new dynamics, and projections for the future were shared and answers were sought.

The science committee of the congress, which was co-chaired by Prof Dr. Gülay Usta and Prof Dr. Tülay Zorlu, included leading representatives of the international academic field in interior architecture. Significant speakers who have contributed to interior architecture education at the international level were hosted at the congress, which was held online for two days.

On the first day of the congress, Rene Pier, and Prof Dr Henry Sanoff made their presentations respectively titled “ECIA Charter of Interior Architectural Training 2020” and “Confronting Traditional Thinking about School Environments. “As for the second day of the congress, Prof Graeme Brooker and Prof Dr. Katelijin Quartier held their presentations respectively titled “50-Words for Reuse” and “Professionalization of the discipline of interior architecture: intertwining research and education.”

The first day of the congress started with the opening speeches. At the congress, apart from twenty-one paper presentations, four guest speakers from leading figures of the field from abroad made their presentations. Interior Architect Rene Pier, who was the first speaker of the congress, gave his presentation titled “ECIA Charter of Interior Architectural Training 2020.” Then the first session started at the helm of Prof. Dr. Didem Baş. In the first session where formal and informal interior architecture design education was discussed, five presentations were made.

Second session consisted of research focused on design studios, which is the most important component of interior architecture education, under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Sezin Tanrıöver. In the second session, four presentations were made.

The first day of the congress ended with a Q&A session that followed one of the guest speakers, from the University of North Carolina Prof. Dr. Henry Sanoff's presentation titled "Confronting Traditional Thinking about School Environments".

On the second day of the congress, which started with the third session chaired by Prof. Dr. Özge Cordan, four papers were presented, focusing on digitalization in interior architecture education.

One of the guest speakers of the second day, Prof. Dr. Katelijin Quartier from Hasselt University in Belgium, with her presentation titled “Professionalization of the Discipline of Interior Architecture: Intertwining Research and Education”, shared about the research laboratory where research and practice come together on store design and its productions. The last invited speaker of the congress, Head of Department of London College of Art Prof. Graeme Brooker made his presentation titled “50-Words for Reuse”.

The fourth session of the congress was continued on the topic of digitalized interior architecture education under the chairmanship of Dr. Aliye Rahşan Karabetça. In this session, four presentations prepared by researchers from different universities were made.

The last session of the congress consisted of four research presentations focusing on education through interior design under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Kağan Günçe.

"5th İÇMEK International Congress of Interior Architecture Education"; under the moderation of Dr. Aliye Rahşan Karabetça, the congress ended with, after co-chairs of the congress Prof. Dr. Gülay Usta and Prof. Dr. Tülay Zorlu's evaluations on the congress's contributions to interior architecture education, their thanks to the science and organizing committees, invited speakers and participants who enriched the congress with their valuable research.

Technology and Project Support Unit Executive Secretary & Scientific Research Projects Coordinator Prof. Dr. Gülce Öğrüç Ildız held an informative meeting titled “Scientific Research Projects and Graduate Thesis Projects” for the faculty of the School of Economics and Administrative Sciences on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 13.00 at the Basın Express campus. In the meeting, information was given about the application and evaluation processes of the projects, and the different aspects to be taken into account in the writing of the project.

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Technology Transfer Office (TTO) took part in the Health Industry Development Summit which was held with the efforts and participations of Ministry of Treasury and Finance, Ministry of Industry and Technology, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labor and Social Security Deputy Ministers and MUSIAD, ATO, ASO, TÜBİTAK, DMO, TÜYAP, TÜSEB, TUYSGM, SGK, KHGM, İKMİB, Eximbank, Participation Bank, Fonkolay President and Representatives.   IKU TTO representatives came together with the panellists and participants to evaluate collaboration opportunities, visited the stands and laid the groundwork for new projects.

Under the internship protocol signed between Istanbul Kültür University and the Istanbul Metropolitan Branch of the Chamber of Architects, Trakya (Bakırköy) Agency, a summer internship program will be implemented for the students of IKU Department of Architecture  between July 18 and August 15, 2022. In the internship program, which will be implemented with the participation of 20 students and lecturers from the IKU Department of Architecture , the layers of the city will be redesigned with today’s technologies.

For academicians of the Faculty of Education, “Scientific Research Projects and Postgraduate Thesis Projects” titled contact meeting was held in the Basın Ekspres Campus Conference Hall on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 14.30 by Technology and Project Support Unit Coordinator Secretary & Scientific Research Projects Coordinator Prof Dr. Gülce Öğrüç Ildız.

Representatives of IKU Technology Transfer Office attended the University Industry Cooperation Centres Platform (ÜSİMP) Patent-Based Commercialization Support Service Information Meeting for the   commercialization of patents at our university oriented endeavours.

Closing of the "IKU Graduate Mentoring Program" carried out by the Student Life, Career and Alumni Counseling Unit (Kültür Point) of Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) in the 2021-2022 Academic Year, on Monday, June 20, at 20.00 via Microsoft Teams was done online. At the end of the program, which was completed with 16 mentors and 16 mentees, participation certificates were presented to the participants. The program, which is carried out to establish and develop the mentoring bond between IKU graduates, will continue with the participation of new mentors and mentees in the upcoming period.

Representatives of IKU Technology Transfer Office (TTO) met with teachers and students from Kültür College and Kültür2000 College. Suggestions were made on the development of three different projects developed by the students during the meeting.

The "Career Talks at Hyatt Regency Ataköy Hotel" event was held in the company of Lecturer Pelin Tuna Arslan, Head of the Program of Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Vocational School Tourism and Hotel Management and Program Advisor Lecturer Hilal Gündoğan, to help our students draw their career maps. At the end of the training, many students gained internship opportunities from the Hyatt Regency Ataköy family for the summer term.

IKU Technology Transfer Office (TTO) representatives and IKU Department of Industrial Engineering Vice President Lecturer Dr. Duygun Fatih Demirel held a meeting on consultancy services for the sector and national projects. IKU TTO's studies and projects for the development of university-industry cooperation continue rapidly.

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Technology Transfer Office (TTO) representatives visited Akademi Beyoğlu, one of the four thematic Youth Centers of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in our country, and discussed possible collaborations with Director Eşref Gürsül and toured the 2nd BESMEK General Exhibition and Festival area. During the meeting, the Nar Women's Initiative and Business Cooperative, supported by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, Istanbul Development Agency and Marmara University, was also visited, and information about the studies was obtained.

An end-of-term picnic event will be organized by the Industrial Engineering Club on Wednesday, June 29, between 11:00 and 18:00 in Beykoz Çubuklu Grove.
