Higher Education Council (YÖK) Chairperson Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar came together with the rectors of universities in Istanbul at the Iftaar program. During the event, which our Rector Prof. Dr. Fadime Üney Yüksektepe also attended, ideas were exchanged to enhance the quality of the higher education system.

Certificates of appreciation were presented to the Mathematics-Computer Club students who took part in the "International Day of Mathematics Istanbul" event held at IKU on Thursday, March 14th, by IKU Rector Prof. Dr. Fadime Üney Yüksektepe and IKU Dean of Faculty of Arts and Sciences Prof. Dr. Ömür Ceylan. IKU Vocational School organized a talk titled "Taking Laughing Seriously" on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, in the Incirli building of the Bakırköy campus.

Prof. Dr. Ahu Tunçel, one of the academicians of Maltepe University Department of Philosophy, attended the event as the speaker. Prof. Dr. Tunçel explained the relationship of the phenomenon of "laughter" with political powers since ancient times, from the perspectives of philosophers.

Our guest, who also explained the concepts of irony, joke, wit, and humor, also gave information about the use of humor in social life, the differences between tragedy and comedy, and comedy and humor in daily life from past to present.

Seminar Psychology Club organized a seminar titled "On the Way to Become a Sports Psychologist with Psychologist Yeşim Canlı" on Tuesday, March 19, in the multi-purpose hall on the 1st floor of the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus. Expert Clinical Psychologist Yeşim Canlı attended the event as a speaker and gave information to the students about sports psychology. Canlı, who also answered the questions of our students, was given a memorial plate as a gift at the end of the event.

A seminar titled “Talks from the Air” was organized by  Vocational School program of Flight Operations Management on Tuesday, March 27, 2024. Kuwait's first female captain pilot, Elif Güveyler, a very significant milestones of the aviation industry, was the guest speaker of the event moderated by Head of program of Flight Operations Management Lecturer Evren Yılmaz.

Captain Pilot Elif Güveyler, who works at Jazeera Airways,  shared with the participating students the challenges she faced and the successes and experiences she encountered as a woman in the aviation industry.  Captain Pilot Güveyler's story of stepping into the industry and her career journey have been a great source of inspiration, especially for young people  considering a career in aviation.

The interactive event proved to be a productive discussion environment covering topics such as the future of the aviation industry, the roles of women in this sector and technological developments.

Selçuk Avcı was the guest of the "Architecture Conversations" series, which has become a tradition in the Department of Architecture. The interview titled "Principles/Obsession/Desires with Selçuk Avcı" took place on Thursday, March 21, 2024, hosted by The Circle, which he founded. Within the scope of the first exhibition of the "Table Exhibition Series" to be opened in March, 28, the speech, which focused on Avcı's life as an architect in the last 12 months and shed light on his business and life history, became a sharing session where students could interactively discuss various aspects of their professional lives. Following the conversation, faculty members and students of the Department of Architecture had a meal together and had the opportunity to reinforce social interaction outside the university.

Three "TUBITAK 2209-A" project applications of our Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN) students and our advisors were entitled to be supported within the scope of the 2nd semester of 2023. We congratulate our students and advisors and wish them continued success.

1) The project titled "Comparison of Imidazolinone (IMI) Herbicide Tolerant Varieties with Turkish Paddy Varieties According to Acetolactate Synthase Gene Expression Profiles" will be conducted by Ece Sezerler and Eylül Koç (Supervisor: Assist. Prof. Alp Ayan).

2) The project titled "Investigation of fatty acid metabolism associated with AMPKα/miR-33a expression in renal cell carcinoma" will be conducted by Hilal Nur Çalışır and Sıla Akçay (Supervisor: Assist. Prof. Burcu Ayhan Şahin).  

3) The project titled "Investigation of the effect of warfarin on ferroptosis pathway in MDA-MB-231 and BT-474 cells with different receptor profiles" will be conducted by Ceyda Kibar and Didem Yılmaz (Supervisor: Res. Assist. Enes Bal).

Scenarist Yeşim Çıtak, who has written the scripts of popular television series such as Erkenci kuş(2018), Menajerimi Ara (2020), Sen Çal Kapımı (2020), will be attending the "Scenario Writing in Film and TV Series" organization within the scope of "Film Language II" and "Film Language IV" courses. She met with our students from the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema at the workshop. The workshop was held on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Bakırköy campus Ataköy building, moderated by lecturer Özgür Balcı. Çıtak shared her professional experience within the scope of the workshop and explained the screenwriting process in cinema and television to our students in a comparative manner. Speaking about the difficult conditions in the TV series industry, especially in Türkiye, Yeşim Çıtak touched upon the negative aspects of the episode lengths of local TV series being quite longer compared to foreign TV series.

Our postgraduate student Dilara Kazancı from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics participated in the "4th International Aegean Scientific Research Symposium" with an oral presentation titled "Development of a gemcitabine-resistant pancreatic cancer cell line and its examination in three-dimensional cell forms", which includes the results of her thesis study conducted under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Özge Rencüzoğulları. Our student's work was accepted as a full text paper in the congress booklet. We congratulate our advisor and our student and wish them continued success.

The Department of Communication and Design students met with Illustrator & Graphic Artist Dr. Yeşim Paktin on Monday, March 25th as part of the "ITB Art Workshops". After a conversation about the areas in which illustration is used, the techniques used to produce it, different styles and printing processes, the students completed the workshop by designing the cover of a literary book they chose from world classics with the guidance of Paktin.

Within the scope of the "ARC0802 Workshop II" course led by Assoc. Prof. Gamze Alptekin from the Department of Architecture English Program, ESKA Metal San. Tic. LIKE. Master Architect Göker Algan from the company was the guest of our university. Algan, who gave a seminar on "Metal Coating Facade Systems" at the event to be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 presented the types of metal applied on building facades together with material examples. In the seminar, application details of the metal cladding systems used on the facade were also explained.

IKU Industrial Engineering Club organized a technical trip to Papara's headquarters in Üsküdar on Tuesday, March 26. Accompanying our students on the trip, Müge Kılıç, Human Resources Manager and Recruitment Officer of Papara, told the founding story of Papara, how it has come to this day and the cultural values of the company. Kılıç also talked about internship programs and answered our students' questions.

A seminar titled "Effects of Gender on Developmental Risk Factors" was organized by IKU Psychology Club on Thursday, March 7, at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall in the Bakırköy campus Ataköy building. Assoc. Prof. Ayhan Erbay, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science and Letters and faculty member of the Department of Psychology, attended the event as a speaker. At the event, which started with Assoc. Prof. Erbay's presentation, students' questions were also answered. At the end of the seminar, a commemorative plate was presented to our professor.

As a part of the "ARC0802 Workshop II" course in the Department of Architecture English Program led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gamze Alptekin,Ali Tuna Şenatlı civil engineer and Marketing Manager Const. from Çuhadaroğlu Metal Industry and Marketing company was received as a guest by IKU. Şenatlı, who gave a seminar on aluminum joinery systems and curtain wall systems at the event held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, showed examples of the wide product range of the Çuhadaroğlu company, which is 100% domestic and celebrated its 70th anniversary, and the projects the company carried out worldwide. The guest speaker also explained the application principles of curtain wall systems on building facades.

The Geek Club organized a "Harry Potter Day" event on Friday, March 22nd at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall in the Ataköy building of Bakırköy campus in order to increase interaction among its members. Within the scope of the event "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" movies were watched.

A seminar titled "The Significance of Artificial Intelligence in Digital Marketing" was held with the joint efforts of the Department of Communication Arts and the Effective Communication Club, on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the 1st floor multi-purpose hall in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus. BusinessUp Founder Önder Türker, who attended the event as a speaker, elaborated on how artificial intelligence can be used more effectively in the telecommunications sector and how artificial intelligence can help aid the communication professionals in digital marketing.

Program of Medical Documentation and Secretarial will organize a technical trip to Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital on Monday, April 1, in order to show students the theoretical information given in classes in practice.

"Department of Cartoon and Animation Alumni Panel-2" event will be organized by the Department of Cartoon and Animation to enable students to benefit from the experiences of our graduates. The event, where our graduates Harun Nail Şimşek (TaleWorlds Entertainment & Level Designer) and Abdurrahman Durhat (TaleWorlds Entertainment & 3D Character Artist) will be speakers, will be held on Monday, April 1st at 13.00 in the 1st floor multi-purpose hall in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus.

A panel talk titled "They are of Kültür" will be organized by the Department of International Trade and Finance to give the students the chance to benefit from the experiences of IKU graduates.  The event, in which IKU graduates Şenay Karabela, Asena Gülberk Yıkılmaz and Alper Durmaz will be speakers, will be held on Monday, April 1, at 13.00 in the Küçükçekmece campus conference hall.

An event titled "HR Meetings-I" will be organized with the joint efforts of Program of Civil Aviation Cabin Services, Program of Business Management and Human Resources Club, in order to support students' career planning processes.  The event, in which PeoCult Founder Muhammet Ali Hazar is to be the speaker, will be held on Monday, April 1, at 13.30 in the auditorium number 4A-01 in the Incirli building of the Bakırköy campus.

An "Engineering Summit" will be organized under the theme of "Innovation" with the joint efforts of Industrial Engineering Club and ASİMOV Technology Club.  The event, in which İpek Çavuşoğlu from Akbank, Esmanur Dağlı from Google, Tansu Birsoy from Turkcell BİP, Çağatay Yıldız from Nevera Tech, Ahmet Kaya from FLO and Erdinç Tandoğan from Garanti BBVA are to be speakers, will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 10.00- It will be held at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Centre between 16.00.

A conference titled "5th Psychology Days: Our Anxiety" will be held with the joint efforts of Department of Psychology and the Psychology Club, in order to inform those interested in the field of psychology about the subject of anxiety in line with different schools of psychotherapy.  The event, in which experts in their fields are to be speakers, will be held on April 3-4 at the Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Centre in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus.

Within the scope of the 2023-2024 Spring Semester activities of the Department of Architecture, one of our graduates, Architect Berrin Ulutaş, will be the guest of our university. The event, where Ulutaş will make their presentation titled "An Architect from IKU in Miami", will be held on Wednesday, April 3, between 12.30-13.30 at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus.

IKU Animal Protection and Survival Club will distribute food to stray animals in the forest feeding areas of Bakırköy Municipality between 09.30-17.30 on Thursday, April 4, within the scope of " April 4 World Stray Animals Day."

An event titled "Application of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science to Economics" will be organized by the Department of International Trade and Finance to support students' career planning processes.  The event, in which Assoc. Prof.  Dr.  Mehmet Songur from Dicle University is to be the speaker, will be held virtually on Thursday, April 4 at 13.00 via CATS and Microsoft Teams platforms.

Program of Civil Aviation Cabin Services will visit the "THY Practical Training Area" on Friday, April 5, 2024, between 12.30-14.00, to support the career planning processes of our students.

Program of Opticianry will organize an event titled "MiyoSmart Glasses" to introduce new generation eyeglasses to students. The event, where HOYA Vision Care Medical Marketing Manager Murat Zorlu will be the speaker, will be held on Friday, April 5, at 13.00 in the Incirli building of the Bakırköy campus.

A conference titled "Current Health Systems Comparisons-1: The Examples of USA and Cuba" will be held with the joint efforts of IKU Vocational School and Health Club, in which the reflection of the changing economic and political situations in the globalizing world on the health systems will be discussed. The event, in which Quality Management Systems Consultant Dr. Derya Şahin is to be the speaker, will be held on Friday, April 5, between 15.00-16.30, in the auditorium 1A-01 in the Incirli building of the Bakırköy campus.
