The eleventh “MEKAN2024 Interior Architecture Students National Graduation Projects Competition” organized by Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design has been concluded.

Organized for the eleventh time by Istanbul Kültür University Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, “MEKAN2024 Interior Architecture Students National Graduation Projects Competition” is an open call to young interior architects to introduce themselves and their design philosophy through their graduation projects, which are a threshold between the education process and the transition to professional formation.

The jury of the competition, consisting of leading representatives from the academic field and professional practice, convened on Monday, November 25, 2024, to evaluate the submitted projects. This year, 50 projects from 17 different universities took part in the competition where Interior Architecture and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design students from universities in Türkiye and Northern Cyprus participated with their graduation projects.

The award ceremony and colloquium of the competition will be held on December 18, 2024, at IPA Campus Pool.

The Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School (MYO) Program of Flight Operations Management has successfully renewed the “Flight Operations Specialist (Dispatcher) Training Authorization” issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

This authorization reaffirmed that the program is in full compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Dispatch Training Regulation (ICAO Doc. 7192-AN/857 Part D-3) and DGCA’s Flight Operations Specialist License Regulation (SHY-UHU).

The Program of Flight Operation Management, which was launched in the 2018-2019 Academic Year, aims to provide students with the skills to plan, implement, and manage flight operations in accordance with national and international standards. With its expert academic staff and strong infrastructure, the program continues to train qualified Flight Operations Specialists for the sector.

The second "Ceramics Workshop" event, organized in cooperation with Istanbul Kültür University Kültür Point of the Dean of Students and Özyazıcı Special Education Vocational School, was held on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the Ceramics Workshop of the Fine Arts Practice and Research Center (GSUAM) in the Ataköy building on the Bakırköy campus.

Our Vice Rector, Prof. Dr. Burcu Yavuz Tiftikçigil, also attended the event, which was held to support the artistic talents of students and increase their social participation. In the event, 10 hearing-impaired students had the opportunity to develop their creativity and manual skills under the guidance of Instructor Özhan Pak.

Planning has been started for the third session of the Ceramics Workshop.

The solo exhibition titled "Encounter" by Assist. Prof. Sevim Karaalioğlu, our faculty member of the Department of Cartoon and Animation, met art lovers at the Independent Art Foundation Gallery, a historic venue in Sirkeci, on Sunday, November 24, 2024. In her exhibition, Assist. Prof. Karaalioğlu sought to provide an intellectual experience for the audience through 17 typographic works. The exhibition will be open for viewing until November 30, 2024.

The graduation project of Melek Hacıfettahoğlu, one of our 2024 graduates of the Department of Communication and Design, titled “Once Upon a Time,” was chosen to be included in the BASE 2024 selection, which was carefully curated from among graduation projects in Türkiye.

The BASE exhibition, which is held every year as an important platform that introduces young talents to the art world, will take place this year at The Ritz-Carlton Residences between November 27 and December 1, 2024. Bringing together the most innovative and original works of newly graduated artists from the Faculties of Fine Arts across Türkiye, the BASE exhibition opens a significant space for young artists to showcase their talents and creativity and step into the professional world after graduation.

The short documentary “Things I Learned at 30”, directed by Res. Assist. Sezer Ağgez, a faculty member of the Department of Communication and Design, has been named a finalist in the 15th TRT Documentary Awards, one of the most prestigious festivals in the country. Res. Assist. Ağgez's short documentary will compete against nine other films for the top prize in the “National Professional” category at the festival, which will take place in Istanbul from December 12-15. 

A detailed information seminar on “Occupational Health and Laboratory Biosafety Rules” was held on Wednesday, November 28, 2024 for students working in the research laboratory of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN). The seminar was given by IKU Occupational Health and Safety Specialist Cumhur Gültekin and MOBIGEN academician Assist. Prof. Sinan Meriç. In the seminar, the working conditions of research laboratories and the rules to be considered while working in the laboratory environment were explained in detail.

Within the scope of IKU Department of Radio, Television and Cinema “Meeting with the Sector” activities, a workshop titled “Ways of Seeing in Documentary” was held with the participation of award-winning director and academician Hasan Demirtaş.

In the event, which was held on Monday, November 25, in the multi-purpose hall at the 4th floor of the Ataköy Building, Demirtaş made a presentation on the history of documentaries, documentary film genres, directing and producing documentary films, and international documentary film production funds.

Following the presentation, a study on different ways of seeing in documentary production was conducted with the participation of the students through exemplary documentaries. In the workshop, many different questions about the documentary production process, especially the effects of the use of animation on the realistic structure of documentaries, were answered through sample documentary excerpts.

The workshop, in which Hasan Demirtaş’s short documentary and the trailers of his feature film “You Name It” were also screened, concluded after the director answered the questions of the participants.

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Head of the Program of Fashion Design Lecturer Neslihan Tokat Ozan has been featured in the 36th issue of TIFF Magazine Turkish Fashion Fabrics magazine published by BTSO with her magazine.

Lecturer Ozan shared her thoughts on the importance of fabric choices in fashion collections and the creation processes of designers. Neslihan Tokat Ozan also made remarkable comments on design trends in the industry and how fabrics shape the collection identity.

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized the “MATLAB Undergraduate Campus Usage Seminar” on Thursday, November 21, 2024, in Seminar Hall 2 of the Bakırköy Campus, Ataköy Building. Burak Süha Minaz from FİGES A.Ş. attended the event as a speaker.

The Industrial Engineering Club organized an event titled “Erasmus Talks” on Monday, November 25, at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy Campus. Our students Didem Tatlı, Güneş Yücel, and Dilara Yaşar participated in the event as speakers and shared their Erasmus experiences.

Students from the Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School (MYO) Program of Opticianry had the opportunity to closely follow innovations and developments in their field by attending the Silmo Istanbul 2024 Optical Fair, one of the most important events in the sector, on November 22, 2024.

Silmo Istanbul, which annually gathers leading figures from the optical and eye health sectors both nationally and internationally, attracted great interest this year. Our students who attended the fair had the chance to examine a wide range of products and technologies, including optical glass technologies, frame designs, contact lens innovations, and digital eye examination devices.

We congratulate all our students who participated in Silmo Istanbul 2024 Optical Fair and wish them continued success.

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering hosted 25 students and 2 teachers from Ataköy Cumhuriyet Anatolian High School at our university on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. During the visit, the students were informed about the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, practical presentations were made in our laboratories, and our university was toured.

A trip to TÜBİTAK Marmara Technopolis was organized by the Department of International Trade and Finance on Wednesday, November 27th. Students from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering also participated in the trip, which was organized in the company of Assist. Prof. Meri Taksi Deveciyan.

In the event, where technology companies within TÜBİTAK Marmara Technopolis were visited, our students were also given a seminar. Our students, who saw the functioning of TTO, Technopolis and Incubation Centers closely, were also informed about TÜBİTAK BIGG, 2209-A and 2209-B.

The students of Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Debate Club participated in the Acıbadem University Rookies Tournament held on November 16-17.

The Department of International Trade and Finance organized a technical visit to Uyumsoft on Thursday, November 21, as part of the branded external stakeholder visit. The protocol, established within the scope of the IRT0218 “ERP with UYUMSOFT” course to provide students studying social sciences with experience in “Resource Management Systems,” which are predominantly studied within engineering sciences, not only offers educational benefits but also creates internship opportunities for our students. During the trip hosted by Tarık Dağ, Uyumsoft Training and Human Resources Manager, Assist. Prof. Didem Kayalıdereden, one of our department academicians, shared information and opinions with students who plan to work in this field, especially after graduation.

IKU Dance Club participated in the World of Dance Türkiye competition, held on Saturday, November 23, at the Boğaziçi Culture and Art Center, showcasing their performances.

A workshop will be organized within the scope of the “TÜBİTAK 3005” Project titled “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Animation Art in Türkiye: A Research from the Sector to University” which was prepared in cooperation with our academicians from the Department of New Media and Communication, Assoc. Prof. Ceren Bilgici and Assist. Prof. Özge Özkök Şişman, and academicians from Istanbul University. The workshop will be held on Monday, December 2, at 13.00 in the Design Factory at the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy Campus. The workshop, which will be attended by academics and animation professionals from various universities, will focus on the integration of artificial intelligence technologies into animation education, innovative approaches for the curriculum, and the concerns regarding these subjects.

In cooperation with the Department of Foreign Languages Education and the International Relations Unit, an “Erasmus+ Mobility Program Information Seminar” will be held on Monday, December 2, at 14.00, at the conference hall of the Küçükçekmece Campus to inform the students of the Faculty of Education about the Erasmus+ application process.

The Career Club will organize the "Career Days" event with the participation of leading companies in their respective fields on December 3-4, from 09:00 to 18:00, at the Bakırköy Campus, Ataköy Building.

In cooperation with the Program of Child Development and Mutlu Gelecek Kindergarten, an event titled “School Outdoors” will be organized to inform students about how school activities are implemented outdoors in child development. The event, featuring Özlem Kutlu Öner, Founder of Mutlu Gelecek Kindergarten, as the speaker, will be held on Tuesday, December 3, at 13:00, in classroom 1A01 of the Bakırköy Campus İncirli Building.

The Program of E-Commerce and Marketing will organize a talk titled “Success in Digital Marketing: Current Trends and Tools” to support students in their career planning process. The event, where SEO Specialist Sema Koca from Webtures Inc. will be a speaker, will be held on Tuesday, December 3, at 12:30, in classroom 4A01 of the İncirli building at the Bakırköy Campus.

In cooperation with the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema and the Cinema Club, the “Interview with Murat Şeker” event will be organized to support students' career planning processes. The event, featuring Director and Producer Murat Şeker as a speaker, will take place on Wednesday, December 3, at 13:00 on the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall of the Ataköy Building at the Bakırköy Campus.

In cooperation with the Dean of Students Office Kültür Point, and the English Language Teaching Club, a “Speaking Club” event will be organized to provide students and staff who have a hard time speaking English with the opportunity to practice their speaking skills with instructors. The event will be held on Tuesday, December 3, at 17.00 at the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy Campus.

The Logistics Club will organize an interview titled “Different Approaches in Air Cargo Transportation” to support students’ career planning processes. The event, where Atilla Demirbilek, Senior Consultant and Executive Coach in Air Transportation, will be the speaker, will be held on Wednesday, December 4, at 13.00 at the Bakırköy Campus, İncirli building.

In cooperation with the Fine Arts Application and Research Centre and Cumhuriyet Newspaper, “Witness of 100 Years” will meet art lovers on Wednesday, December 4, at 15.00. The exhibition, which tells the important phases of the Republic and the world in 100 years through the eyes of Cumhuriyet Newspaper, can be visited until December 24 at IKUSAG Exhibition Hall in Ataköy building of the Bakırköy Campus.

Before the exhibition opening, a conference will take place at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall at 14:00, featuring Cumhuriyet Foundation Secretary General and Author Işık Kansu as the speaker. The conference will focus on the importance and details of the process, compiled from the extensive documentation of Cumhuriyet newspaper, which chronicles the events and developments that have left lasting impressions on the collective memory over the past 100 years.

In cooperation with the Dean of Students Office Kültür Point and the English Literature Society, a “Creative Writing Workshop” will be held for students and staff who want to improve their English writing skills through practice. The event will be held on Wednesday, December 4, at 17.00 at the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy Campus.

State artist Mehveş Emeç will present her new program titled “Romanticism on the Piano” to art lovers on Wednesday, December 4, at 19:00 at the Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center in the Ataköy building of the IKU Bakırköy Campus. The Department of Radio, Television and Cinema will conduct a screening of the film “A Guide to Living for the Dead” and a talk with Barış Fert in order to support students' career planning processes. The event, where Director Barış Fert and Prosthetic Makeup Artist Hazal Tanrıverdi will be the speakers, will be held on Thursday, December 5, at 13.00, in the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall at the Bakırköy Campus Ataköy building.

The third session of the “Big Mistakes of Entrepreneurs” event series will be organized by IKU Design Factory will feature Enes Yiğit, Business Development Manager at YouthSide, as the guest speaker. The event will be held on Thursday, December 5, at 15.30 at the Design Factory in the Ataköy building, Bakırköy Campus. The quota of the event is limited to 45 people. The "Speaking Club" event will be organized in cooperation with the Kültür Point of the Dean of Students Office and the English Language Teaching Club in order to provide language practice with instructors for students and staff who have difficulty speaking English. The event will be hosted at the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus on Thursday, December 5th, at 17:00.

In cooperation with the Vocational School (MYO) and the Civil Aviation Club, the "Aviation Summit-5" event will be organized to support the career planning processes of our students. The event, where important stakeholders from the aviation industry will be the speakers, will be held on Friday, December 6 at 10:00 at the Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center in the Ataköy building of the Bakırköy campus.

The Program of Medical Documentation and Secretarial will organise a conference titled “Innovation Journey of Quality Management in the Health Sector” in order to inform students about the importance of innovation and digitalisation in quality in health services. The event, where Tansu Güvensoy and Adem Kamalı from BHT CLINIC Istanbul Tema Hospital will be the speakers, will be held on Friday, December 6th, at 12:00 in the 1A01 classroom in the Incirli building of the Bakırköy campus.

The Department of Educational Sciences will organize a panel titled "On the Edge of Freedom: Psychology, Education, and Rights in Penal Institutions" to inform students about education and psychosocial support processes in prisons. The event, where experts in their fields will be speakers, will be held on Friday, December 6th, at 13:00 in the conference hall of the Küçükçekmece campus.

The "Creative Writing Club" event will be organized in collaboration with the Kültür Point of the Dean of Students Office and the English Language and Literature Club for students and staff who want to improve their English writing skills through practice. The event will be hosted at the Ataköy building on the Bakırköy campus on Friday, December 6 at 17:00.
