Pandemic will Accelerate Digital Transformation in Education
 

Expressing that the transition to distance education brought digital transformation due to the outbreak of the new Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), İKÜ Faculty of Education Dean and Education Technologist Prof. Dr. Rauf Yıldız pointed out that the digital structure makes education more efficient.

The COVID-19 outbreak has also changed the educational life of students. Expressing that there was a digital transformation in education with the transition from face-to-face education to distance education, Prof. Dr. Rauf Yıldız, Dean of the Faculty of Education and Education Technologist, stated that everyone had to touch the digital environment with the pandemic. Emphasizing that students and teachers can turn the situation into an advantage with the right planning in this process, Prof. Dr. Yıldız said, “The distance education process brought a radical change. The universities that have developed their accumulation, experience and digital content were able to enter this period quickly.

“Pandemic Made the Digital Media Contact Compulsory”

Stating that distance education brings positive results in some respects, Prof. Dr. Yıldız said, “As educational technologists, we have been saying that technology and digital environment should be integrated into education for years. We had to go digital transformation as soon as possible. Unfortunately, we could not create this awareness. Now all students and teachers had to touch the digital environment. ”
“We Must Support Face to Face Education with Digital Infrastructure”

Underlining that the ideal in education is face-to-face education, our teacher said, “It is always important for the students to see the gestures and mimics of the teachers closely by asking questions and getting answers immediately. However, in addition to the current face-to-face education, digital infrastructure should also be used sufficiently. This process has shown us that education can reach more effective and productive points by including digital infrastructure in teaching processes. There are very complex, abstract topics. Especially at these points, technology can be used. Simulations, graphics, animations can be introduced to simplify difficult topics. For example, graphics are very effective to simplify complex topics. So for me, even if the pandemic ends, the digital world will remain here. In fact, we will make our future plans according to distance education. Maybe we will move the verbal lessons to this portal."
“The Infrastructure of the Content Development Unit Should Be Created”
 

Pointing out that the focus will be on content development in the future, Prof. Dr. Yıldız said, “The infrastructure of the Content Development Unit affiliated to the General Directorate of Educational Technologies of the Ministry of Education should be established. I believe that graduates of computer and instructional technology education will contribute to this area in terms of the personnel to be appointed. One or two people can be appointed for each clan. You can use an application developed by a small team in technology in all schools. Even if the development costs seem high, the high number of users almost resets that cost. I hope that similar applications will be started in universities. At least, such experts should be employed depending on the information technology units, “he said.
“Pandemic Proves the Insufficiency of Traditional Method”

Underlining that the Z generation living in the digital world will demand intelligent systems that suit their needs, attract and keep them alive, Prof. Dr. Rauf Yıldız said, “The traditional method was already insufficient and the pandemic made us realize this better. "It has led the education world to learn this truth by living what we have not been able to tell before."
“Turkey and the World Is Not Completely Prepared For the Distance Education Process”
 

Prof. Dr. Yıldız stated that “Turkey and the world is not completely prepared for the distance education process. But even before World War 2 in the world and laid the foundation of it in Turkey. Istanbul Kültür and Education Institutions Founding Board of Trustees Honorary President High Civil Engineer Fahamettin Akıngüç's father Halil Akingüç was the representative of Fernschule in Turkey, means distance education, which gave distance education in Germany by letter, in addition to the Kültür Dershevi he founded in 1938. And in the circumstances of that day, 600 students were enrolled in Fernschule, which was given technical education by letter transferred from Germany by Halil Akingüç, and received distance education by letter. But when we look at today, we see that Turkey and the world are not fully technologically ready for this system. We can say that only a few universities in Turkey are prepared to a certain extent. Not all institutions in the world are ready except for specific examples. I believe that not only in our country but all over the world, such efforts will be more important and more products will emerge. So we will have made a faster transition to digital education.”

“Department Introductions” E-Seminar
 

Istanbul Kültür University Industrial Engineering Club held an e-seminar titled “Department introductions” with 4 different speakers on 11-12 April via Adobe Connect system. During the event, our guests informed about “Sales-Marketing”, “Production and method engineering”, “logistics and Product Marketing” departments and transferred what industrial engineers do in those departments to undergraduate students. With the event, our students had an idea about deciding which departments or units to work in due to the widespread area of work. The speakers, who conveyed information via videos and examples through the slides, also answered students ' questions.

Developments in Turkey

-According to the decision published in the Official Gazette dated April 14, 2020; under the scope of the fight against COVID-19, those without Social Security will be able to benefit from protective equipment, tests, kits and medicines that will be provided and distributed by the Ministry of Health free of charge. T. C. Ministry of Health;

- Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca made a statement after the Science Board;

1) some of the results so far indicate that Turkey will overcome the outbreak with the least possible casualties,

2) that there is no other country that applies the filiation system the way we do.,

3) 261.989 people have been identified in the contact chain of patients diagnosed to date, 95.8% of them have been reached, the total number of people followed by the filiation teams is 251.028, and an average of 4.5 contact persons per each confirmed case,

4) that the filiation work continues in 81 provinces, that the percentage of the contact follow-up results is the most in Zonguldak (99%), the least in şanlıurfa (92%); that the number of cases is the highest in Istanbul, 1.200, 4.600 filiation teams are working in Turkey.,
