For more information… WHO continues to provide timely and accurate information in a world where we have an excessive amount of information, some are correct and some do not. COVID-19 infodemics covers four main thematic areas where people seek reliable information and where false information-rumours are located: 1) The cause and origin of the virus and disease, 2) Symptoms and modes of transmission, 3) Current treatments, prophylactic and drugs, 4) The effectiveness and effects of interventions by health authorities or other institutions. - The Information Network for the WHO Epidemia (EPI-WIN) held a global and online consultation meeting on April 7-8 to manage the COVID-19 infodemic. Ideas were brought together after the meeting. These ideas will form the basis of a COVID-19 infodemic framework to guide the actions of governments and public health institutions and will be available in the coming days. The framework will be built around four main principles; 1) Interventions and messages should be based on science and evidence. 2) Information should be transformed into actionable behaviour change messages that are accessible to all sectors of all communities. 3) Governments should reach these communities in order to better understand the concerns and information needs of key communities and to better tailor advice and messages that can help these communities appeal to their audiences. 4) Strategic partnerships should be established with social media, technology platforms and stakeholders, and other relevant stakeholders, such as those in academia and civil society. This is part of the usual process put in place by our Member States. 8)No doubt, areas for improvement will be identified and there will be lessons for all of us to learn. 9)But for now, our focus – my focus – is on stopping this virus and saving lives. 10)More than 90 countries have joined or have expressed interest in joining the Solidarity Trial, and more than 900 patients have now been enrolled, to evaluate the safety and efficacy of four drugs and drug combinations. 11)Three vaccines have already started clinical trials, more than 70 others are in development, and we’re working with partners to accelerate the development, production and distribution of vaccines. 12)In addition to the Solidarity Trial, I am glad to say that WHO has convened groups of clinicians to look at the impact of corticosteroids and other anti-inflammatory drugs on treatment outcomes 13)The Solidarity Response Fund has now generated almost US$150 million from 240,000 individuals and organizations.
