Recommendations for Surface Cleaning for Society to Prevent Infection of New Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)
 

Nowadays, when the epidemic of New Coronavirus Disease (COVID 19) affects the whole world, cleaning and disinfection applications are important both in terms of preventing the activity of the disease-causing microorganism and the possible negative effects of the unconscionable applications for this purpose on human and environmental health.

The disease is transmitted to uninfected people through droplets from people who carry the virus. Therefore, it is important in hand washing and social distance protection. For this purpose, it is necessary to wash hands frequently for at least 20 seconds with soap, between the fingers, palms, back of the hands, nails, thumbs and wrists, to be at least 1 meter of interpersonal distance and to ventilate the environment.

In addition to these precautions, especially the cleaning of the surfaces used and touched by many people becomes important. This is because the droplets scattered from the sick person to the environment spread to the surrounding objects and surfaces, and other individuals who come into contact with these surfaces cause disease transmission by bringing their hands to the mouth, nose and eyes. Therefore, surface cleaning is one of the important steps in preventing disease spread. To prevent transmission of the disease in homes, workplaces, common areas, etc. cleaning in places under normal conditions and disinfection procedures should be continued where necessary. In non-critical areas, increasing the frequency of cleaning with detergent and water is sufficient, disinfectant or special substance use is not necessary.

General principles to be kept in mind to ensure proper cleaning and disinfection in order to prevent disease are:

-First of all, dust and foreign materials on the surface, furniture  or material should be removed mechanically. By doing so, the surface, furniture or material can be wiped with a dry and clean cloth.

-Afterwards, cleaning with water and detergent is sufficient in non-critical floors and furniture, there is no need to use any disinfectant.

-Cleaning agents should never be mixed.

-If it is necessary to use disinfectant after cleaning, it is sufficient to use diluted bleaches in certain proportions where it is convenient to use. If it is not appropriate to use bleach even if it is diluted, at least 60% concentration of alcohol solutions, etc. can also be used.

-Particular attention should be paid during the use of bleach, bleach should never be inhaled, should not come into contact with the skin or be brought into the mouth. It is very important to ventilate the environment during cleaning; gloves should be used, and the cleaning product used should be used in accordance with the instructions for use.

- If bleach will be used,  one should not use it more than the recommended amount.

-Toilet and bathroom cleaning should often be done . For the disinfection of surfaces such as toilets, bathrooms, kitchen benches, the rate recommended for our country is 1 measure of bleach in 100 parts of water. (It will be enough to mix half a tea glass of bleach in 5 liters of water). Care should be taken to use the appropriate amount of product with the appropriate method.

-Bleach should only be used for surface disinfection. Direct skin contact or oral intake of bleach (although diluted) causes chemical burns. Inhalation of bleach in poorly ventilated environments can increase allergic manifestations, trigger asthma, and cause recurrent bronchitis.

- Cleaning with detergent or bleach should be done with a damp cloth, and should be rinsed with water.

- Fragrant disinfectants should be avoided as much as possible.

-The amount of bleach to be used on the surfaces that is thought to be at high risk of virus transmission can be increased. However, if there is no such risk, there is no need to increase the amount.

- On dirty surfaces, cleaning should come first before disinfection.

-Spray application should only be used in areas that cannot be reached with general cleaning, but not in other areas.

-Areas of high contact risk (telephone, keyboard, remote control, table, door handle, handles, light, etc. buttons / switches, handrails, faucets, sinks, kitchen countertops, toilets and bathroom fixtures) should be cleaned and / or disinfected daily.

-Since the effect of cleaning or disinfection application decreases with repeated contacts, the frequency of application should be increased according to the frequency of contact and the level of pollution.

- Baking soda and vinegar are not effective enough for surface cleaning.

-Cleaning and disinfection of the room and furniture of a sick person are carried out in a different way. In this respect, the recommendations of healthcare professionals should be followed carefully.

Developments in Turkey

The Republic of Turkey Ministry of Health:

Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca, in his press release, reported that:

- It is a public health war, as the virus spreads to the world in three months,

- Filings were applied for approximately 10,000 patients with field teams and Family Physicians,

- There were cases in all provinces; About 60% of the cases are in Istanbul and the provinces with the most frequent cases are Istanbul (8 thousand 852), İzmir (853), Ankara (712), Konya (584), Kocaeli (410), Isparta (268), Sakarya (207), Adana (197), Bursa (135), Samsun (112),

- There are deaths in 39 provinces,

- The mortality rate is 1.58%,

- 10 percent of the cases seen in Europe are healthcare workers, 601 healthcare workers are affected in our country, and more health personnel can be screened in the coming days,

- 79.5% of those who lost their lives and 75% of intensive care patients are over the age of 60,

- 68.8% of those who lost their lives and 63.3% of intensive care patients are blood pressure patients,

- 63% occupancy in intensive care units,

- The bed occupancy in services is approximately 40% in Anatolia and 58% in Istanbul,

- An arrangement will be made in Pandemic Hospitals to prevent citizens from paying wages,

- The number of laboratories will be increased to 89 centers, all centers that can work are allowed, the number of tests performed daily will increase from 15 thousand to 30 thousand within the next 10 days,

-Rapid PCR tests brought from China are used, 1 million kits are available,

- Those who come from Umrah and abroad and are quarantined will be followed up in the hospital in case of positive test or symptoms.

- Approximately 90% of the employees working in the appointment and call systems of the Ministry work at home,

- Health personnel who have resigned before can work within the Ministry again,

- The drug brought from China is being used in intensive care patients, the Scientific Board has analyzed the effectiveness of the drug,

- A framework has been drawn on the application of giving the plasma of the people with developed antibodies to the sick and a circular has been issued for the centers that can work,

- Stem cell therapy is applied to some patients in three centers,

- Travel restriction was intensified.
