Hygiene Period in Kitchen Shopping
 

Preparing, transporting and most importantly, delivering food to the consumer also carries the risk of transmission of New Coronary Disease (COVID-19) from person to person.

The COVID-19 pandemic hit the gastronomy industry with a heavy blow and deeply affected our nutrition system. The warnings of stay at home that is given by experts is very important to get rid of the virus, but due to our basic needs, our connection with the outside is inevitable. This virus is not transmitted through food. However, the preparation, transportation, most importantly, delivery of food to the consumer bring with it the risk of transmission from person to person. It is very important that the consumers are meticulous and food companies show the necessary sensitivity in terms of hygiene.
What should the consumer pay attention to when shopping for food? What measures should the markets take?

It will be beneficial to put alcohol-based antiseptic solutions at the market entrances for the customer's hand hygiene. Customers should be let go into the market by a staff member in a controlled manner, to avoid intensity. Products must be selected visually first, then taken. If there is another person in the same aisleway during shopping, a distance of 2 meters must be maintained with that person. In a situation that this not be possible to do, shopping should not be done on the same shelf at the same time. It should be ensured that the counter where the products are placed is clean, and also hygienic should be one of the main duties of the market. It is good practice for cashiers to clean their hands after shopping, not to touch the mouth, nose and eyes instead of gloves. In this period, it will be useful to use 0.1 percent sodium hypochlorite for general cleaning in the markets.
What is the duration of this virus to live on sachets, plastic, cardboard surfaces? How should precautions be taken?

In a study made by experts from the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute of Health, UCLA, and Princeton University it is examined that how long the virus remain contagious on different surfaces. They found that the SARS-CoV-2 can be detected for up to 4 hours in copper, 24 hours in cardboard, and 3 days in plastic and stainless steel. SARS-CoV2, which is a COVID-19 agent, is transmitted from the respiratory tract. Many microorganisms causing the disease can be found in nutrients. The main thing here is to keep our hands clean. The risk is only when the nose, mouth and eyes are touched with dirty hands, and this is the way of contamination. Otherwise, no matter which surface is adhered, there will be no smearing from these surfaces by inhalation.
What should be done before putting the vegetables and fruits in the refrigerator?
 

It is enough to wash vegetables and fruits in accordance with general hygiene conditions just like soaking in vinegar in the water and washing it under running water.
Do we need to keep fruits such as oranges and tangerines out?

There is no information about the waiting time for the shopping bags and similar packages that come from outside. The suggestion for that is to put such bags in a corner on the kitchen balcony as soon as they enter the house without touching them and immediately wash the hands with soap and water for 20 seconds. The risk of contamination with materials is that only hands are not washed and come into contact with the eyes, nose and mouth.

Are the businesses' takeaway services safe?

The most ideal at this period is cooking at home and consuming them fresh. Foods, especially meats, should be cooked well; raw foods should not be consumed.
Soap, vinegar, bleach, cologne… Which is more effective on the virus?

Soap, bleach and alcohol are known to be effective on the virus. When 0.1 percent sodium hypochlorite is applied on floors and surfaces, it is a cheap, simple and effective cleaning method.
How important is nutrition to prevent COVID-19?

Body resistance is one of the most important key points in preventing this disease. In this respect, it is important to eat a balanced diet, protein, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins and minerals that should be taken daily. In addition, adequate water intake, regular sleep, and maintaining the intestinal flora are also important in sustaining the immune system.
Attention if a Mask is Required:
 

- Washing hands before wearing the mask,

- Do not touch the mask after wearing the mask, clean the hands if touched,

- Change the mask every 4 hours,

- After removing the mask, put it in a bag and discard it and clean the hands again!

“Reflections of COVID-19 on Civil Aviation Sector”
 

İKÜ Awareness Club, which has been dealing with all kinds of social awareness issues since its establishment, continues to organize its activities in the digital environment during the pandemic in our homes. The guest of the live chat called “Reflections of COVID-19 to the Civil Aviation Sector” held on the club's Instagram page on April 29, is the first Turkish Woman Pilot to fly the Airbus A380 (the largest wide-body, double-decker, with a maximum capacity of 853 passengers) was Safiye Ademoğlu Türkyılmaz. Within the scope of “MIM0803 Workshop III” under the direction of Tülin Barutçular in the Turkish Program of Architecture Department and “ARC0803 Workshop III” courses given by Gamze Alptekin in English Program, ASPEN Assistant General Manager Levent Yılmaz met with our students. Yilmaz, gave information about the suspended ceiling systems through examples of industrial projects, their application in Turkey and abroad. Drawing attention to the details between the applications in different projects, Yılmaz stressed the importance of the architects' search for solutions with the manufacturer and the positive reflection of the applications.

"How Does the Mind Work?" E-Interview
 

In cooperation between Istanbul Kültür University Women and Social Research Unit (İKÜ-KAD) and the Gender Equality Club, on Monday, April 26, 2020, an e-interview titled "How Does the Mind Work?" has been organized. Public Relations and Personal Development Specialist Nursen Aktoprak, who participated in the conversation via the Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application, shared her knowledge and experience with the students of IKU Communication Arts Department.


Aktoprak explained the structure of the human mind, mental diagrams, opening up space for creative thoughts in the mind and informed our students about application techniques related to affirmation and stay in the moment during the days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The interview, which drew attention to the fact that young people whose living conditions have changed due to the COVID-19 virus, should think more clearly and not stay in the dimension of fear in this process, ended with the answer of the students of the Communication Arts Department.

Developments in Turkey

T. C. Ministry of Health;

Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca, in a statement after the Science Board meeting;

- By giving examples from world data, our country has successfully come out of this struggle so far,
