Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) 2021-2022 Academic Year Opening Ceremony was held on Wednesday, September 22 at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center with the participation of our Chairperson of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sinan Alçın, academic-administrative staff and students.
Making the opening speech at the ceremony, our Rector said, “I know that all my colleagues who work at the university, regardless of their level, are also aware of this fact. We discuss, talk and share this topic face to face at various times. This year, we will focus on our needs, our expectations, and most importantly, our improvement aspects, on topics that will provide a positive touch to students.
We need more dialogue. With the pandemic period, health, safety and digitalization are very important topics in student happiness. Young people will adapt to university life after significant losses and restrictions. In this process, each of us should be able to receive reverse mentoring from students, apart from our titles and specialties in student relations. Students' impressions contain very valuable information about reshaping the profile of higher education during the pandemic period."
Our Rector continued her words as follows: "The codes of higher education have changed with the pandemic. In addition to digitalization, we should reconsider topics such as international experience and internship connections. "As we learn to live with the pandemic, we must focus on projects and collaborations that will encourage our students to open up to life, profession and the world at national and international level. One of our goals is to make the studies applicable in life, not on paper."
Our Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver said, “It is a fact that life conditions force us all. However, despite all difficulties, we also have titles with great meaning and importance that increase hope and excitement for the future. Our foundation is in its 35th year. In the new academic year, it has undertaken an important work to touch the lives of young people with its equal opportunity scholarships in education.
Under the leadership of our Board Member Lale Akıngüç, our foundation will undertake very important works in the coming days, especially in scholarship opportunities, education, research and social responsibility studies. It is our responsibility to raise the awareness of our students about the existence of our Founding Foundation and the opportunities it offers to students. We should first feel the privilege of being a student or a worker at a foundation university and the value of graduating from a well-established foundation university, and we should be able to make our students feel.”
After the opening speeches, the famous pianist Kubilay Kan, who represented our country abroad, made pleasant moments with a concert consisting of two parts.
