Dr. Mensur Akgün and Dr. Sylvia Tiryaki from GPoT Center attended the “Global Movement of Moderates” Conference, organized in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on January 17-19, 2012. The theme of the Conference was “In Pursuit of an Enduring and Just Peace.” The attendants of the Conference varied from top echelons of the Government to academia, civil society and media.
The second piece in our Op-Ed series is devoted to the figure of the former President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Rauf Denktaş, who passed away on January 13th, 2012. The Op-Ed features two articles. The first one is entitled "Instead of Farewell / Veda Yerine" and is written by Dr. Sylvia Tiryaki. The second one entitled "Denktaş No More / Denktaş Artık Yok" is written by Dr. Mensur Akgün.

In June 2009, GPoT Center published a book by the former Turkish Cypriot President, Rauf Denktaş, and Professor Michael Moran. The publication, entitled “Cyprus: Unity and Difference,” is a collection of letters exchanged between President Denktaş and Professor Moran.

GPoT Center organized the screening of a selection of films made by Turkish and Armenian students in their neighboring countries at Istanbul Kültür University on December 23rd, 2011.
The six Turkish and Armenian students made the films in 2011 as part of the "Dialogue-Building between Armenia and Turkey" project, funded by the United States Department of State Bureau of Democracy, Rights and Labor. The films were co-produced by Internews Armenia and CAM Film (based in Istanbul), with the support of GPoT Center. They were screened in Armenia between December 5th and 7th, 2011.
Dr. Akgün participated in the panel discussion "Evaluation of the Turkish Foreign Policy" organized by the Bilim ve Sanat Vakfı (Foundation for Science and Art - BISAV) on December 21, 2011 in Istanbul.
