  • Russia Military’s Actions in Syria Cause Rift With Turkey | The New York Times

    ISTANBUL — Tensions between Russia andTurkey widened on Tuesday over the Russian bombings of Syrian rebels and multipleviolations of Turkish airspace, which have deeply undercut Turkey’s goals in the Syrian civil war.

    “The Russian presence has changed the entire parameters in Syria, including a safe zone,” said Mensur Akgun, director of the Global Political Trends Center, a research organization in Turkey. “No one will dare confront Russia.”

    GPoT Project Assistant Omar Sheira participated in the workshop entitled "Deconstructing Islamist Terrorism in Egypt" in Berlin, Germany.

    The event was organized by The German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) under the EU-Middle East Forum (EUMEF), which is a platform for professional exchange, capacity building, cooperation, networking, and intercultural dialogue.

  • 18th Round of the Heybeliada Talks

    GPoT Center organised the 18th round of the Heybeliada Talks: Series of Second Track Diplomacy Meetings on Cyprus, on 10 August 2015 in Nicosia’s Buffer Zone, Cyprus. 

    The event took place with the participation of approximately 25 civil society activists, opinion makers, academics, journalists, and experts from Turkey, Greece, and both sides of Cyprus.

    It was our pleasure to hold a mini Heybeliada Talks event within the framework of the 16th Symi Symposium on July 22, 2015 on the island of Corfu, Greece.

    The Heybeliada Talks: Series of Second Track Diplomacy Meetings on Cyprus brought together the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot chief negotiators, policy makers, journalists, and civil society representatives from Greece, Turkey, and both sides of Cyprus.
