The workshop specifically was designed to address the political economies of large scale housing projects in the peripheries of the world’s cities. The event/project is about the various ways in which peripheral urban housing projects are being built and re-vitalized.

The Palestinian Question on the Occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

GPoT Center and Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) International Relations Club organized an event with IKU students on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

In the event, Ret. Ambassador Dr. Oğuz Çellikkol, and GPoT Center's Muhammed Ammash briefed the students about the Palestinian Question and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as well as Turkey's relations with actors in the region.

GPoT Center organised the 19th round of the Heybeliada Talks: Series of Second Track Diplomacy Meetings on Cyprus, on 21 November 2015 in Nicosia’s Buffer Zone, Cyprus. 

The event took place with the participation of approximately 25 civil society activists, opinion makers, academics, journalists, and experts from Turkey, Greece, and both sides of Cyprus.

Roundtable Meeting with Ms. Emine Çolak

Center for American Progress (CAP) and GPoT Center hosted a roundtable discussion with Turkish Cypriot Representative in charge of Foreign Affairs Ms. Emine Çolak.

The roundtable discussion which took place on October 6th at the Center for American Progress in Washington assessed the decades-old division of the island and Turkish membership in the European Union, as well as the latest negotiations and the prospects of a deal.

Deconstructing Islamist Terrorism in Egypt

GPoT Project Assistant Omar Sheira participated in the workshop entitled "Deconstructing Islamist Terrorism in Egypt" in Berlin, Germany.

The event was organized by The German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) under the EU-Middle East Forum (EUMEF), which is a platform for professional exchange, capacity building, cooperation, networking, and intercultural dialogue.

In the framework of the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant on Forced Migration Mensur Akgün, Müge Dalkıran, and Omar Sheira, participated in the annual conference entitled "Forced Migrants, Refugees, and the International State System" in Toronto, Canada.

Heybeliada Talks Follow-up Meeting

It was our pleasure to hold a mini Heybeliada Talks event within the framework of the 16th Symi Symposium on July 22, 2015 on the island of Corfu, Greece.

The Heybeliada Talks: Series of Second Track Diplomacy Meetings on Cyprus brought together the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot chief negotiators, policy makers, journalists, and civil society representatives from Greece, Turkey, and both sides of Cyprus.

Turkey-Armenia Journalism Award 2015 finds its recipient

Global Political Trends (GPoT) Center organized the fifth annual Turkey-Armenia Journalism Award Ceremony on 11 June 2015 at the Residence of the United States Consulate in Istanbul. In the event that was attended by Istanbul based journalists, academicians, and civil society representatives, the 2015 award went to Milliyet’s Mehveş Evin, for her article “1915: Genocide or not?”
