GPoT Center hosted a meeting on November 19th, 2011, which was organized by the Cyprus Academic Dialogue. Academics and intellectuals from both sides of Cyprus, and Turkey discussed the current issues in the Cyprus conflict and produced a memorandum to be shared with senior policy-makers.
The meeting was co-sponsored by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the Australian High Commission in Cyprus.
GPoT Center of Istanbul Kültür University organized a roundtable meeting on November 14th, 2011 between 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm, in which Dr. (Col) S.P.S. Bedi, the Executive Director of Chandigarh Business School of India, talked about India’s rise as an emerging power.
GPoT Center organized the second round of its Policy Talks series on October 12, 2011. The topic of the round table was the recent developments in the Middle East and Mediterranean region and the current state of Turkey-Israel relations after the release of the Palmer Report.
The meeting was attended by GPoT High Advisory Board members Şadi Ergüvenç, Yalım Eralp, Sönmez Köksal and Özdem Sanberk, along with Sami Kohen. After welcoming remarks by Mensur Akgün, Mr. Sanberk presented the Palmer Report and spoke about its preparation.
Global Political Trends Center (GPoT), together with Armenia-based Eurasia Partnership Foundation (EPF) and Yerevan Press Club (YPC) held a three-day-long conference entitled “Armenia-Turkey Policy and Media Discussions”, and a cultural tour at Istanbul’s Heybeliada (Halki Island) and Istanbul Kültür University between July 11th and 13th, 2011.
Global Political Trends Center (GPoT) together with Armenia-based Eurasia Partnership Foundation (EPF) and Yerevan Press Club (YPC) held the Annual Journalism Award Ceremony both in Armenia and Turkey in the year of 2011.
On Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, D.C., GPoT Center launched Dr. Alon Liel and Mr. Can Yirik's book Turkish-Israeli Relations (1949-2010), a pictorial history of the bilateral relationship from its foundations to the present day.
On June 17th, 2011, GPoT Center organized a round-table meeting with the participation of Mr. François Del Marmol, the Consul General of Belgium in Istanbul.
The event, entitled "The Belgian Model: In the Light of Turkey's Constitutional Debate," was attended by Ms. Danielle Del Marmol, who serves on the Board of Trustees of the Eurasia Partnership Foundation, as well as academics from the Istanbul Kültür University, GPoT Center's High Advisory Board members, and journalists.
The impact of the latest Greek Cypriot (May 22, 2011) and Turkish parliamentary elections (June 12, 2011) on the official Cyprus talks was discussed by Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot civil society activists, academics and opinion leaders together with participants from Turkey during the 10th round of the Heybeliada Talks on June 13, 2011.
Armenian and Turkish journalists and civil society activists met in Yerevan for a three-day conference organized by GPoT Center in cooperation with the Eurasia Partnership Foundation (EPF) and Yerevan Press Club (YPC) to discuss the current state of the Armenia-Turkey relations and upcoming parliamentary elections in Turkey.
GPoT Center, Yerevan Press Club (YPC) and Internews Armenia organized a media reporting bus tour starting from Istanbul and ending in Yerevan between May 3-18, 2011. Journalists from Turkey and Armenia visited many historical places and had meetings with several NGOs and local political leaders.
