Global Political Trends Center (GPoT) and the Contemporary Turkish Studies Chair at London School of Economics (LSE) together organized a conference on December 4th in London, bringing together leading experts in the field to discuss the new orientation in Turkey’s foreign policy.
Arab – Turkish Dialogue Forum, held between 21-22 November 2009, in Istanbul, was a joint initiative of Istanbul Kultur University – Global Political Trends Center (IKU/GPoT), Centre for Arab Unity Studies (CAUS) and Arab Democracy Foundation (ADF).
On 22 October 2009, Istanbul Kultur University- Global Political Trends Center (IKU/GPoT) and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Foundation’s office in Turkey jointly organized a roundtable meeting on “Turkish foreign policy today, with special reference to the Middle East and Arab World”, with the participation of prominent figures from the Arab League (e.g. ambassadors, counselors, ministers plenipotentiaries) and Turkish experts ranging from media to academia.
In the wake of the historic football match between Turkey and Armenia in Bursa, Global Political Trends Center (GPoT) organized a panel attended by Turkish and Armenian journalists as part of the Mutual Bias and Objectivity in the Media project.
Istanbul Kültür Univesity – Global Political Trends Center (GPoT) organized a roundtable meeting on September 7th on the “Kurdish question and nationalism” with Ingmar Karlsson, an experienced diplomat and former Consul General of Sweden to Istanbul.
The Global Political Trends Center, Arab Democracy Foundation, and Ibn Khaldun Center for Development Studies have organized the second workshop of their joint project titled Towards a Better Life: How to Improve the State of Democracy in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The workshop took place in Istanbul on 14 July 2009.
Alliance of civilizations and Union for Mediterranean region: Two compatible or concurrent processes.
On 11 July 2009, the Global Political Trends Center (GPoT) organized in collaboration with Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) the first conference within the Turkish Season in France. This conference, entitled “Alliance of civilizations and Union for Mediterranean region: Two compatible or concurrent processes?”, aimed at finding further cooperation and comprehension areas between France and Turkey, which have been historically ad culturally tied through centuries.
On 17 June 2009, GPoT Center launched two of its publications on the Cyprus question at Dome Hotel, Girne. First one, entitled Cyprus: Unity and Difference is a collection of letters exchanged between the former Turkish Cypriot President Rauf Denktaş and Professor Michael Moran.
The second one, penned by Professor Moran under the title Britain and the 1960 Cyprus Accords: A Study in Pragmatism is giving an account on the Great Britain’s ‘timidity’ displayed in the early 1960s and today.
On 3 June 2009, the Global Political Trends Center (GPoT) organized a roundtable meeting on "The New Dynamics in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Netanyahu-Liebermann Coalition, Obama Administration and Fatah-Hamas Rift", at Istanbul Kültür University.
The Roundtable took place with the participation of Dr. Oded Eran and Mr. Mordehai Amihai, Israeli Consul-General in Istanbul. The meeting was intended to focus on the current developments in Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the evolution of the Middle East Peace Process.
In collaboration with the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI), Global Political Trends Center organized an international conference in Stockholm, Sweden on 25 May 2009.
